I just read every single reply/post and I can't believe what I'm reading. I visit this site almost everyday and it would be a great shame to have it lost. Although I've no idea about servers or anything, I would do whatever I can to help the Jdorama.com cause. Genma, if there is anything I can do, please PM me. As I've read, donations won't get you very far while finding a new host. But I'll pay whatever I can to keep this site up and running.
Anything else I can do since I can't really recommend a new host? As for now, all I can say is that elt's server, or Ruroshin's may suffice for the required bandwitdth for Jdorama.com. Please keep me posted and I'll do whatever I can.
Oh, and I took the liberty of retyping the topic name in caps with a message for everyone to read. _________________

After some reviewing of hosts... I've sieved out a few options:
1) ev1servers.net
Cost: US$99 per month ($1 startup fee) for a dedicated server
Intel Celeron 1.3 GHz
512 RAM - 60 GB Hard Drive
1000 GB Monthly Transfer
World's largest hosting provider, reliability shouldn't be an issue. Just money...
2) surpasshosting.com
Cost: US$25 per month for shared hosting.
Claims to provide 200gb of bandwidth, but rumoured to be heavily loading their servers and prone to significant downtime. With JDorama.com's bandwidth, its a cheap but risky choice.
3) usonyx.net
Cost: S$99 per month ($300 setup fee) for dedicated server
AMD Duron 1300
512MB DDR-RAM
40GB / 7200 rpm HDD
500 GB bandwidth
Company based in Singapore, but server in USA. Also had rumours of non-existent support..
Hey, please do let me know of any good plans out there.. I'm still searching! _________________ @_@ <--- webmaster?

Genma, since in the previous 14 months you've received ~$241.65 in donations toward the maintaining the website, it may be unrealistic to expect to be able to raise ~$1200.00 ($99/month), unless you can obtain advertising revenue.
Does the $25 a month option contain a long contract committment? If not, it may be a good short-term solution, to give you enough time to line up donations and advertising funds.
I also have a friend that used to do low-cost hosting, I'll ask him if he still does. PM me the info about the requirements it would take to host Jdorama (HDD space, expected bandwidth requirements, etc). If he still provides hosting services, then you'd be covered for Network Engineering, Security Engineering, and System Engineering support (but not DBA and HTML/XML).
Coincidentally, I work for a company that provides colocation, bandwidth, power, professional services, etc., but it'd be way too expensive to host at my employer!

I'm in the midst of checking for advert revenues. If it goes thru, this funding should be fixed (but not very safe to just depend on just one advertiser).
For the $25 a month option, they host 100 to 500 accounts on P4 or Dual Xeon servers. As opposed to what we have now, less than 10 accounts on QUAD Xeon servers, expect speed to slow down by more than 10 times, coupled by frequent outages. Realistically a site clocking over 100gb of bandwidth per month should not expect good performance on shared hosting. =b Perhaps I'm asking for too much, but the difference really is great.

150gb as a temp solution may be ok. JDorama is growing steadily.. so I do believe this 150gb limit will be breached pretty soon Furthermore, on checking up the site, here's what I found:
topclasshost.com wrote: | Please note: Several of the scripts require a MySQL database. You will be limited to 4 MySQL reliant scripts with the HighFlowData-1 package and 8 with the HighFlowData-2 package. |
Way off for JDorama.com.. 100% of our scripts are database reliant.
For me, while still looking for better hosts, I'm checking for advertisers. Preference is still a dedicated server. (you know guys, if we make this move, it gives lots of room for potential site upgrades too) _________________

Oh no Genma. Please don't let this site down. I'm an addict to this site and I'm not finish learning Japanese from you guys.
I'm not really sure about the webhost but from those 3; I'll go for a reliable ones (ev1servers.net) less downtime and a reliable support (from what i've heard and from those 3 choices)
As for the money, I'll go for the membership idea (you can't really rely on only the ads for $99/mo either IMO...) Well, donations through paypal is hard for some countries where paypal doesn't exist.
For ads, please don't go for the annoying ones. (with pop ups and stuffs flying on your screen)
