have a nice day ! |
I'm not sure about Tokio. Some of the Smap boys can do minimal English.
Nakai - He might say random bits, he can't really understand it. He usually says that he can't do English at all...so he doesn't front
Goro - Not at all, it seems
Kimura - Some, probably the most of the 5. Not really bad at all, I give him credit, especially since he doesn't seem to be actively working on English nowadays!
Tsuyoshi - Not much, probably Nakai's level His main forte is Korean
Shingo - Hehehehe, while doing English on SmaStation every week, he's working on it. I think he understands more than he can speak. His "Engrish" is very cute I think Smap's schedule prevents him from really excelling much, but he's definitely improved since he first started. I think Kimura's English is a bit better than Shingo's though.

Shingo spoke with Cameron in English, and while they were cooking , Cameron Diaz talked with this one guy who isn't cooking about sushi, and Kimutaku even understood her while cooking and asked "what, you don't like sushi?"
The other two didn't speak english with her, so no idea about them.
Don't know about Tokio either. |
Yep, the greeter is Nakai. He doesn't claim to speak any English. But he occasionally will come out with some stuff if there's an English speaker. I remember when they did Bistro Smap at Whoopi Goldberg's house
That was a GREAT episode Shingo only spoke in English with Cameron at that one part. Most of her responses, he waited for the translator. He still spoke Japanese the rest of the time, LOL. The "I'm not gay. Welcome to Japan!" was THE BEST PART
Goro didn't try, and I've never heard English from him before, so I assume he knows none. Tsuyoshi doesn't claim to know any, and he did say things in Engrish in that episode, such as "Look me!" "Catch please!" and "Nice taste!" That ep was so cute

I know, that was awesome. He was really cute while he talked in english with her. I loved the episode too ^_^
I'm usually never watching Smap x Smap, but Nakai was like "I absolutely don't speak english" to Cameron, and when she was trying the fruit cream (or whatever) and said "that's the BEST!" to him, he was like ?_?, so I thought he really speaks no english at all. But as I said , I don't watch this show usually, so you know better.

I liked that part too
and I think Shingo is the one who is considered to be the best in english of the SMAP guys.

Melody does! She's an american born japanese from LA I believe. Very nice R&B music. Although I can easily tell that her Japanese has an accent to it. Nonetheless, she is very pretty

Odagiri Joe, he went to study in the US, Manabu Oshio he spent some of his childhood's life in the US too, Kato Masaya..hmm..He lives in the US now. Hiroyuki Sanada's English is also quite good and I think Watanabe Ken's English has improved now ever since the Last Samurai.
Within the Johnny's Jr..Jimmy Mackey (he's half American), YamaP's english is not bad (I've heard him spoke in English).

I know one of the announcers from Fuji could speak very good English because she lived in America for awhile. Her last name was Kisa. Can't remember the rest of her name. Sorry! |

Actually, SMAP's Goro has spoken English. Earlier this year, he started in a detective series that took place between fictional Japanese and American characters. In which, he spoke English for a large majority of his lines. However, it was clear that he had little idea what he was saying, and there wasn't much training that went into it because the drama wasn't as monumental as say, The Last Samurai in which Watanabe had a personal trainer that worked with him.
Also, Takenouchi Yutaka's English is not that impressive...I heard him speak some English on his new English program, and he sounds programmed. Still, this is partly due to the fact that actors do not have the time to study English in depth, or they have no reason to study it.
As far as other English-speakers that rock socks, there's the guy that starred in "Friends," with Fukada Kyoko and WonBin, as well as the morning drama, "Sakura"--Ozawa Yukiyoshi. His English is pretty darn good. His co-star and main lead in "Sakura," Takano Shiho has an extremely good command of the English language. She played a third-generation Japanese living in Hawai'i who goes to Japan to learn more about her roots while teaching an English course at a boys' high school. Takano Shiho also studied abroad as a young girl in England, her interest at that time, however, was ballet.
