Franklin Odo is also the author of No Sword to Bury: Japanese Americans in Hawaii During World War II. I bought it as a gift for someone but got a chance to quickly skim through it before handing it over; it was pretty good from what I could tell.

His new book does look interesting; the price is kind exorbitant though (46 dollars on Amazon).

This is the first of three compilations: Club Nisei, Club Nisei Encore, and Paradise Honolulu.

Bought a number of these CDs for relatives who actually went to see these performers in their heyday (late 40's to the early 60's). They even personally knew some of the performers from school and the neighborhood.

It's Japanese big band music, done by Hawaii Nisei. Good listening with excellent extensive liner notes.

While perusing the interweb I came up with this interesting factoid about early Ford Mustangs that went to Hawaii (and Puerto Rico):

In 1965 all Mustangs to Hawaii and Puerto Rico came with heater delete systems and were given a $50 credit off MSRP. Those that wanted heater cars (standard production) had to order it. Heaters were not deleted in 1966 as they found that surfers liked warm air on their feet after dawn patrol in the water.

I have gotten numerous requests over the years for heater delete parts, especially for the firewall pieces. Don't bother asking anymore, as the salvage yards have long been raided for the special parts from the fan box, firewall pieces and fan control delete (original metal not plastic repo).

Yeah, they been showing quite a bit of it here on the news. Supermarket shelves empty, long gas lines, just like Florida. It kind of cracked me up when they showed a guy coming out of a supermarket wearing a Hanshin Tigers t-shirt.

Blizzard warning in Hawaii, 12 inches of snow expected

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning until Sunday morning on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The warning remains in effect from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday as up to 12 inches or more of snow is expected on the island. NWS also warns residents to stay indoors as forecasters predict winds gusting over 100 mph.

"Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility at times, with periods of zero visibility," NWS's weather warning reads.

Aside from the blizzard warning, a Kona low is expected near the islands starting on Saturday night. Kona storms are a type of seasonal cyclone in the Hawaiian Islands, usually formed in the winter from winds coming from the westerly "Kona" direction, according to N. Kona lows often bring about wet and "unsettled" weather.
