Hey, I wonder if I could add a list of stores in the Toronto area ( a very Asian oriented city ) where I've been able to purchase drama. Its actually almost like living in Japan with the amount that is avaliable if you know where to look and are lucky enough to live here (I'm sure Vancouver and San Francisco are even more packed with j drama sources).
Anyway, I just wanted to share it, didn't think I should keep it to myself when lots more people could benefit.
Tell me if this section is incorrect, ne?

I guess the most obvious place to search for dorama in Toronto is Chinatown.
Chinatown centre on Spandina and Queen St W, and Dragon mall (just a block ahead) all has J dorama along with the expected Chinese nd Korean dramas.

They usually have the more well known drama (Beautiful life, Strawberry on the Shortcake, Summer Snow ) as well as popular Japanese movies like BR and Ju-on. In Chinatown Centre the most drama is found on the 2nd floor by the washrooms. They specialize in Japanese TV including anime (they even say Irraishaimase when you enter! ) The 1st floor and basement have a mixture of DVD, VCD stores with j-drama included.
In most cases though, the drama will NOT be subtitled in English (only Chinese ) Shake Head
The movies however, almost always are.
The prices are usually extremely cheap (as most DVD or VCDs are burned ^^;; ) For a movie you can expect anywhere from $5 to about $15 (usually the deal is 5 DVDs for 20 dollars---seriously :p )
The drama can be a bit more expensive especially at the specialty store... but the independent DVD stores have boxed sets for about 15-40 dollars.

Dragon centre has about the same selection, but I know Chinatown Centre better because its bigger ^^

A bit further up from Dragon centre on the East side is 'Anime Extreme', an obvious anime store, but it had a boxed set of GTO live last time I was there, and they said they tend to get J-drama.

Spread throughout Chinatown are little dvd stores that sometimes have j-drama but as usual they are not english subbed.
Thats it for Chinatown!

Markham Ontario which is about 45 minutes away from downtown Toronto has a huge Chinese population, and also the biggest Chinese mall in North America called Pacific Mall. This is a biggie for j-drama and movies.
They also tend to have subtitles more then Chinatown. DVD stores are spread throughout the mall. Don't neglect the anime stores either! They will usually have some drama as well.
The going price here is about the same as Chinatown.
Even if you're not out for drama, Pacific Mall is like visiting different parts of Asia in one day (better then Chinatown too! )
Going there tomorrow! ^.~

And I have saved the best for last.

J-Town is THE place to get drama. The bookstore has all the dramas of last year for rent AND for sale if they have extra copies (they usually do) It is also in Markham, just before Pacific mall. The website has the directions.
They have current drama, and popular oldies, along with variety shows, anime, news, even dubbed Korean drama (Winter Sonata is always there ^^ )
Anyway, you get to rent them for a week. Don't know the price for one ep, but if you want the whole series its always only 10 dollars. If you want to buy the series and there are extra copies, it is also only 10 dollars. This is where I got Denchi ga kirerumade. Very good w00t!
Only downside for ppl who don't speak Japanese, these are taped off TV, so NO subs at all.
Gomen Sweat
This is a whole japanese mall, so there's books and manga, food ingredients, sushi, and gifts.

Also going here tomorrow... must have onigiri ^^

Well thats about it. Its a pretty good selection. Hope this gave some info to Torontonians and even Ontarians.
Enjoy the drama! Big Grin

I get this FAQ too maybe too often

I use Bit Torrent!!!! that is the best tool to use for downloading and broadbanned on 24/7 i think, DO NOT USE E-donkey that is too slow and might wait for a week when you finally got it while u BT can do it in a couple of hours. the only ppl use E-Donkey is whitewashed and English

For dramas I use www.asianfanatics.net/forum (the best website so far w00t! )that is where I can the newest Chinese but the subbed in chinese (I speak eng and cantonese) so if the drama in mandarin, japanese or korean and I need Eng subb then I get on www.d-addicts.com the problem with that they(fans subbers) do them once in a blue moon aka rarely Angry I want them to sub them more often Bow

For Animes: I can get it on asianfanatics but they only out on Cantonese which they don't alway sound good and always changing their names Beat You /giving them dordgy names Bang Head ... Animesuki.com have the latest ones basicly when just air on a fews hourse ago and subb in to good english (fans subbers) if you need ENGLISH AND JAPANESE Version of them then it is AnimeXtreme however that take longer and not always excellent quality... so i reccomend using animesuki.com

buying it well go back to HK or Malaysia but apart from that i use YesAsia.com... I hate buying coz it take a week until i recive it and it easy to lose em

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but ...

I'm wondering about this whole clubbox thing. I mean, I'm sitting here, as I usually do, naked but for my fetchingly stylish tinfoil hat thinking that it just seems a little fishy.

So the deal is they just allow free use of gobs of bandwidth? But you have to d/l a special Windows client? And it pegs your own computer's outgoing bandwidth? Has anyone sniffed the TCP connection to see if they are doing anything funny with your computer? Like using it as a spam zombie or something? I mean, they gotta pay for that bandwidth somehow. What's their business model?

Gotta go now! Nurse just brought my meds! Yay!

Yup I don't know if this and the above posts should go to a separate Clubbox thread. My suspicion is that the download client is filled with advertisements but I know very little Korean to neither confirm nor disprove it.

Alright, I use it and I'm fine with it. I'm not endorsing it. I don't benefit from mentioning it. I'm just listing all the sources for downloading dramas. That's the purpose of this thread. Each method I mentioned is to each user's own discretion to whether they want to use it. I take no liability.

If you everyone would have read my post about it, it uploads UNCAPPED while you are downloading without your knowledge. Unless someone tells you (like me) or you put up a bandwidth monitor, people don't notice and they just think they are getting awesome speed. So people are raving about it as if it's faster than BT and thinking they upload nothing, but in fact they upload at the same time. It's on a different port so people with slow BT and clogged or problematic typical BT ports will think it's so much faster. It's not for me because I have fast speeds with BT as well.

Without buying anything, your maximum download will be 100KB/sec on average, but sometimes it's slower. Many times if no one is downloading it, it's not being fully hosted/uploaded, so your speeds will be lower. Many people still don't know clubbox uploads, but it does. To test it out, run your BT client with uploads going and look at clubbox speeds. Then close the client and watch it go up, because you are then uploading and your download gets increased (same with BT, increase your upload, download goes faster).

Those with gold boxes have a lot of points because they have a lot of downloaders. So, their hosting space gets increased and the files no longer expire. That is an advertising point. More people to see the ads paying clubbox to display them, and more people to possibly buy coupons for faster downloading.

It's very similar to P2P but it's not openly shown. That is why it is not ideal for university connections or connections with monthly caps, which I mentioned. I have low upload rates anyway so it doesn't hurt me. I remove the file once it is complete and move it elsewhere.

It does have one banner ad in the client. It's in Korean so I couldn't care less and it doesn't get in the way. Money also comes from people buying coupons and points for faster downloads and the ads.

To discuss clubbox, make a thread in general discussions rather than continuing this convo here, ok?
