Currently watching The Good Wife (amazing!), Game of Thrones, Don't Trust the b_tch in Apartment 23, Suburgatory, Modern Family, Cougar Town (I'm a minority I guess. Love this show), Happy Endings (favorite comedy), 2 broke girls, Revenge (insane!), Girls (crazy), religiously following Grey's Anatomy, and a ritual of Chelsea Lately every night.

That's pretty much everything that's on TV, ne? hehe

Got Dead Like Me from the library by chance. I have only watched 3 episodes but great show. It really sneaked up on me, and before I knew it, another episode was over and now I want to watch them again.

Which brings me to "Detective Inspector: Irene Huss". Ooooo, I like this one. Angela Kovacs (Irene Huss) was actually a regular cast member in the first few Wallenders... and then they gave her her own show. And from what I've read, it's been a major ratings hit in Sweden, and across most of Europe ever since it first aired in 2007.

Inspector Huss is one tough cop... she's also the wife of a successful Chef, and the mother of two teen aged daughters... daughters who are in the process of rebelling against authority... just as Mom is out kicking ass, taking names... and trying to make everything at home seem normal and safe.

Good show.

Better late than never, I guess.

Geezer, if you're still lurking around, I finally got an opportunity to watch several episodes of Irene Huss. A solid show. Angela Kovacs does a really good job playing the eponymous character. I think I actually like her character more than the character of Sarah Lund in the more acclaimed Forbrydelsen.

Nordic noir is getting a lot of attention these days. A number of Scandinavian crime shows have aired (complete with subtitles) and received both critical and popular acclaim over in Great Britain. And at least a couple of them have actually been adapted by American TV companies--The Killing (Forbrydelsen) and The Bridge (Bron Broen); plus of course movies like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

A very funny series.

American TV networks have a history of adapting British sitcoms--All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Three's Company, and The Office come immediately to mind. Maybe it's time to look north for inspiration.

Not sure if I'm a fan, but I do watch the show...

The Sheldon character makes watching the show difficult at times.

Most of my DVD viewing in the last year has been focused on Nordic noir. I've watched a number of different Scandinavian crime series, and I've yet to be disappointed.

The British used to be the best at crime series, but unfortunately the quality has dropped imo in recent years. America would occasionally produce a crime series that rose above mediocrity, but that doesn't happen very much either these days.

So Nordic noir has become my viewing obsession--at least for now--and so far so good.

The one problem is that very little has been formatted for distribution in the U.S. Most of the series I've watched were either region 2 or 4 DVDs or DVD-Rs found on on-line sites. At least the subtitles are in grammatically correct English.

Recently finished season 3 of Justified. Terrific crime series, based on an Elmore Leonard character. So much to recommend: sharp signature-Leonard dialog, abrupt and unexpected plot twists, double and triple crosses, memorable villains, tragedy and hilarity all within the same episode, a unique location . . . .

Season 5 is set to air on FX next month, but if you decide to watch this series, you have to start from the beginning since there is a continuous plot thread. I'm waiting for season 4 to be released in the next week or so; it's already on my Netflix queue.

Well, here's another tip of the hat to our Canadian neighbors--I think we ought to pattern our paper currency after yours. On one of my travels this year, a Canadian showed me how their bills now have a clear see-through strip on them. It's supposed to make it difficult to counterfeit; I thought it looked really neat.

Kudos, Canada! Thumbsup

You should see the Australian notes: all plastic, with a clear area etc. Really nice.

Really. The future of money!

On topic:
WAtched Modern Family which is funny. Not close to Corner GAs but really what is? hehe

Watched six seasons of Foyle's War back to back and highly recommend it. They really put out the budget for this one. Both of us loved it. Victory! Peace! Victory! Peace!

They are also indestructible, which I think Australia is credited for. O! And if you rub the maple leaf on the five dollar bill, it smells like maple.

(the latter point may be a myth... my $5 definitely smelt of maple)

For the first five seasons Foyle's War was about as good a crime series as you could get. Meticulously researched, it seamlessly blended historical events and situations with the fictitious crimes--the audience got both a detective drama and a history lesson at the same time.
I was disappointed in season six, which takes place post-VE Day; it didn't seem on par quality-wise with the previous five seasons.
Season seven takes place during the subsequent Cold War era. I thought it was better than season six, but not as good as one thru five. That said, Foyle's War would still rank in my top 10 favorite crime series. Like you Eve, I highly recommend it. Good

I know fantasy shows like GoT are a love 'em or hate 'em kind of thing, but GoT is just so well done - Mrs AD could never get into Lord Of The Rings and doubted she would like GoT, but she is hooked just like me.
