Since there was so much question on how to post pics, and after obtaining Genma's approval, I am able to open a thread regarding a picture posting tutorial.
This thread is also a "practice thread", so for those of you who want to try it out, please go right on ahead.
However...... obscene or offensive pics will not be tolerated! *duh* They will be immediately deleted and the poster will be issued a warning. Repeat offenses will result in disciplinary action. And since ALL mods have access to this forum, I felt that this is the most appropriate forum to place it into.
The tutorial was done by eltinator and I have to give him much props for clearly explaining how to upload and post a pic.
Here is the tutorial...........

Hey,
Ok I got the tutorial finished. Not sure if I'm allowed to make a sticky but here is the tutorial so you can make it a sticky or have the mod of whichever forum to make it a sticky. I think this should go at least in the artist board since we have the most pics there. Well, feel free to edit for grammar mistakes or anything and maybe link uploadit and photobucket (hehe sorry, don't know the exact URLs for those )
Here it is....
Ok posting pictures are easy. Just follow these simple directionsc
1. Find a host for your pictures. I recommend either photobucket or uploadit. You can try a free host such as tripod or something, but usually those sites wonft allow you to link pics unless you change the extension to a g.txth. Just keep in mind that if your host is free, then the pic will either not link correctly, or go down shortly after it gets posted. So if you want pics to last for a long time, and usually pics in the artist thread are meant to last for long periods of time, then I would really recommend paying for a service.
2. So now that you got your pic uploaded to your host linking is simple. First find the URL of your image. Usually itfs going to end in g.jpgh for Jpeg or g.gifh for a Gif, or whatever extension your image is in. Paste the link into your browser to check if it brings you to a page with only that image on it.
3. In your post, press the [ img ] button and then paste the image URL and then click the [ img ] button once more to close the URL. Click preview to see how your post looks and if you like it, then click submit and youfre all set! If you still need to change something, then click the edit button on your post to change it rather than making a new post.
4. To post multiple images in one post, you basically do the same except after the last [ img ] bracket, hit genterh to go to the next line, and then press [ img ] again, paste the image and then [ img ] once more to close the URL. Repeat this step for more images in 1 post.

You might want to add that scaling the image down or reducing the .jpg quality a bit will result in a smaller file size, allowing faster downloads for us non-broadband folks...

Thanks for your reply on my thread. Really appreciate your willingness to help. I've never used Paint or PhotoShop so when I tried to open a picture in it and crop it, all I got was a small mini-picture which was too small to see. After that, I didn't know what I was suppose to do with it - e.g., how do I get the picture onto a thread I want to start?
Anyway, whatever help you might be able to give would be really appreciated! Thanks!
ok i'll show ya the basics... you use photoshop?
ok get a picture if it is too large and want to make it smaller... first make sure u can see how big the file really is. press the Z key... or click on the little magnifying glass... this is the zoom tool...
go to the option on the top that says "actual pixel" after u click on this the it shows you how big the file really looks like!....
ok so say i want to make an avatar this files is just wayyyy too big for that.. so i'll scale it down .. ready? here we go.... now copy you image (because you never want to mess with the original )
to copy there is layers bar on the bottom right corner it says background, layer1, layer2, etc... LEFT click the layer and drag it into the little square to copy... and you'll see that t automaticaly makes a duplicate of the layer (please remember to
DRAG the background layer into the DUPLICATE BOX!
ok now to resize.. click the image and press CTRL & T press the "ctrl" and "t" keys..or go to EDIT->TRANSFORM scale... this is the command to 'transform' the image
with this you can scale it , strech it, twist it, shrink it, and all that fun stuff... notice ow it is surrounded by a box.. click on one of the corners , drag it and shrink it to the size you want!
ok so now we want to save it at that size to make an avatar for jdorama... now we "mask" the image to select it while holding the ctrl key left click on the new/smaller layer " this makes a bounding box on the image it looks like little black ants crawling on your window... heh oh yeah to get rid of the 'ants' just press ctrl&D this is the DESELECT command)...
now press "ctrl & C" this is the copy command.. or go to edit -> copy....
now go to FILE->NEW and make a new smaller file.. in the width type in 150 as that is the size that jdorama suggest! and make a new file
now in the file press ctrl & V this is the commad to paste.. or go to edit->paste and walla ur new smaller file... since it never comes out right the first try ..resize it "ctrl & T" and scale it .. and repeat the proccess untill you are happy with your new file...
once youre happy with its save it.. go to FILE-> SAVE AS... and save it as a JPG or GIF either one is supported by jdorama.. REMEMBER WHERE YOU SAVE IT AT!!!!! (i suggest you save it on you desktop as you'll remember wher it is until u find a folder to put into) (my sister always forgets where she saves her files.. she goes "diego, i can't find the file i just saved or downloaded... can you find it for me" ... i and i go "NO! shut up u idiot learn to remeber where your files are at".. but then i end up helping her find them anyway... BUT ITS VERY BVERY VERY VERY ANNOYING!!!! so don't be like my sister and rememeber where you save your files! ..or i'll clock you on the back of the head)
anyway what i was i talking about...?.... oh yeah! now save it as something you'll remember.. i named mine as "iloveyoufile" cuz everything needs love.. even little files ^^
(remember i made mine smaller, but u can make your bigger or whatever u want and stuff...) now that that's done we exit photoshop.... now on to hosting the file so the nice people on the internet can see it XD
now we go on to a hosting website.... any web host will do like photobucket or angelfire or whatever (the thing with angelfire is that it doesn't allow directlinking for jpegs.. but u can get around that by saving the files and "name".jpeg.TXT when u save them as that it thinks they are word files but they show up perfectly when u direct link them to other websites... =X but don't tell anglefire...
anyway since uploadit.org is simple to use and free well use that... (cuz i'm too cheap to pay the damn thing for a "premium membership" .. pssshhhh screw that why would i pay when i can get it for free?!? .. ok so go to uploadit and create a free account...i'm not gonna show you how to do that since i already have one ^^
ok once you have one click on the browse button to find the file that you want to upload....
look we found our file easily (since i saved it on the desktop cuz i'm smart like that )
ok next push the upload button to upload that sucker on the 'NET .... look our file is now online YAY!!!! HAPPY DAYS!!! anyway click on the link to view ur file
ok now highlight the link and press crtl & C the copy commad to copy the link....
now go to jdorama.. or any other website where you want to show off your file (we'll use jdorama) log in and click on your profile (its on top) .. now scroll down to the avatar control panel....
ok since our avatar is hosted somewhere else we'll link to it.... ok? on the space for LINK TO OFF-SITE AVATAR press "CTRL & V" the (paste command)
now hit the submit button and PRESSTO! ur now have an avatar.. and it'll show up on ur posts ^^ just like this:
ok now onto showing pictures in a post (posting images) wen u post you post you should see a box that says IMG that's the image code box... anyway its basicaly adds [img][/img] to you post... to diaplay an image paste the link of where the omage is stored and type it inbetween the code... [img]http://address.com/image.jpg like that ok since i said that Washio Machiko was the hottest i'll post a pick of her....
there is a good pic of her.. now copy the link and paste it in code in your post
and wallah a lovely picture of her has been posted for all the world to see ..
and that concludes this session please send me 100 dollars (AMERICAN... no IRAQUI bills with saddam husein on the picture.. as those are now worthless ..or so i hear).. 300 dollars if you are an international student! thank you and good night.... man this took a long time to write you owe me an hour and 42 minutes of my life!!!

Very good tutorial lovelessemotion. However, I don't think many people, especially those learning to post pictures would be using Photoshop or even have it I would think.
Maybe a tutorial with a free program like IrfanView would be nice.

Ahochaude, Eltinator, Lovelessemotion, and everyone else involved,
Thanks for a concise and easy tutorial on how to post pics. This is what I've been looking for. I'm gonna try it out over the weekend. Hey, with any luck, I'll be a pro by Sun (yeah, right ...) and have some good pics to post.

ahhh CRUMBS!!!.. that's true, i think the reason i did it in photoshop was that some pple told me they've been using photoshop.... since every windows machine comes with MICROSOFT PAINT maybe a tutorial on that!? yes? no? maybe so?
i think PAINT is easier (NOT BETTER, JUST EASIER) all you basically have to do in paint is drag and click
*edit* i've never even heard of IfranView before.. what's that? is it good?
now if you'll excuse me, i have to go wash the dishes.. as our dishwasher is broken ...i have to do it by hand

Hehehehe, what will be the borderline of offensive or obscene? No more Shingo butt signatures for me?? No more bikini chick sigs for a ton of others?
i don't think that way.... i just basically follow a rule of thumb "if someone finds a picture or word offensive i remove it" there are countless ways to express once's self without offending another....
i personaly find nothing wrong with bikini clad pictures or shingo's buttocks ^^ ...but then again someone might find that offensive.. and until they say it... I SAY: GO AHEAD AND POST THAT UP!!! (if or when someone gets offended then its time to change it IMHO)
