It's definitely one of the best. If you like the story watch Beautiful Life, Long Vacation, and Overtime...all written by the same screenwriter, Eriko Kitagawa.

I finished Orange Days last night (full review pending) and have to admit ultimate scene, with Kai leaving for work, had tears streaming down my face every time I watched it (all six so far, I think). It's such an amazing character growth for both characters, but Sae specifically.

Brilliantly written and directed final scene.

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

But Kai was an amazingly well done character even if unrealistically good. Might be the best Jdrama character I've seen so far.

And it reminded me of a role I had to play in a past relationship that was just like that - the other person was hell bent on destroying whatever we could build in terms of a connection. I put up with it for nearly two years.. but eventually realized that I couldn't do anything. But when he exercised such patience with her, it brought so many memories back!

Another drama I'll miss a lot now that it's over.

Why aren't there hundreds of pages on this one? So many interesting issues... sure the plot and macrostructure are nearly forgettable, but the moments of greatness are truly great.

I just finished watching this drama earlier today and I really enjoyed watching it. The relationship between Kai and Sae was what hooked me in, seeing how the two overcome the obstacles. Kai's insanely patient, especially when dealing with a girl who constantly tries to push herself away. One of her attempts was really struck a nerve with me, when she asks Kai if he only helps simply so he can feel good about helping those in need, if that's the only reason why he is around.

The friendship between the group, set within a college setting, kept me interested as well. Reminds of Honey and Clover in a way, the group enjoying their moments together, while realizing that it won't be that way in the future. They try to figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives, trying to find their way.

I give it 8 oranges out of 10. Victory! Peace!

Hehehe... 8 oranges Smile

I loved this series too and ended up giving it an 8 as well. It's one of my favorites still.

is it just me or the shows written by her tends to tell the story slowly?

Overtime and OrangeDays wasn't that slow paced but Beautiful Life was sloooowww

A little too early to say really, but after a second viewing, Ep.3 is becoming one of my favorites...

Nice memory. I think that show is full of great moments. Many of which, for some reason, make me choke up when I think about them.

Maybe I'm like Kai - my women are the type that need to be tamed, so Sae is kinda special... if quite a bit on the unreasonable side of the spectrum, at times. Or maybe I like the idea that I can help to be the interface to the rest of the world where none exists or there are difficulties - maybe not as serious as hers.

Kai's actually one of the drama characters I most closely associate with. I found myself feeling exceptionally vulnerable to that character when watching the series.

Phlargo, women tamer Beaten

I can't say I could associate with any of the characters, but I can understand their worries about the future after college, how they won't be able to see each other as often.

The final scene with Kai heading off to work had me a little misty eyed Sweat

Not so much a women tamer.. but a people interface. I love the idea that I can figure out two different people and help them communicate in a way they couldn't. It manifests itself in lots of parts of my life.

And that scene at the end is really one of those that I am utterly defeated by. It probably made tears stream down my face a good 5 times watching it... Even if it's entirely predictable from the story, it's directed so well and Satoshi's facial reactions are just sublime. It's also that emotional catharsis - so powerful.

I saw this drama not too long after watching the movie Joze to Tora to Sakana Tachi and I saw a number of story parallels and it sorta turned me off... Which is probably why I gave it such a relatively low score.

But yeah, the final scene in the drama really puts a lump in your throat.

Ah, I feel the same way but not because I've watched the movie you mentioned but because I've seen too many Eriko Kitagawa's past dramas. For me this drama, while it has its merits, is full of recycled materials. It's like Asunaro Hakusho, Aishiteiru to Itte Kure, Beautiful Life, Long Vacation all mashed into one. I find the stark similarities/parallels so very annoying which makes this drama unoriginal for me. I blame all this on Eriko Kitagawa-san - it's like she was underestimating her viewers.

The performances were good, but I couldn't care less if the leads got together (I thought the Eita-Hiroki-Miho triangle was more interesting). The very last part moved me though, but the drama made me go "Ok, there's nothing new with this drama....now, moving on."

Just my 2 cents Sweat

I'm in the process of downloading Beautiful Life, and what you say about Eriko Kitagawa's works is a bit unsettling Sweat I suppose though, that if I enjoyed Orange Days perhaps I will enjoy Beautiful Life, but the only way to know for sure if I actually watch it.

Yes, I have and after thinking a little about it, I agree with you: There are parallels between the movie and Orange Days. Looks like if I enjoyed those two, then Beautiful Life will be at least decent, or maybe it'll be the turning point and I'll swear off anything like it. Who knows really; at the rate I'm downloading I won't find out until the end of the week.

I guess Tsumabuki Satoshi likes roles where he's paired up with gals with handicaps... Kinky. Beaten
