NTT DoCoMo came up with another one of those stupid polls (I'm only saying it's stupid because Manami Konishi didn't make the list, but I can't argue with their number one choice):

Uchino Masaaki to change his name to Uchino Seiyo
On July 10, actor Uchino Masaaki announced through his official website that he has changed his name to 'Uchino Seiyo'.
Regarding his name change, he explained, "There are still a few people who are called 'Seiyo' withz (kanji for Masaaki). There was also a part of me who called myself 'Uchino Seiyo' with 쐹z (kanji for Uchino Masaaki). I thought that it would be better to go with the simple 'onyomi' (Chinese-derived pronunciation)." While 'Masaaki' was the name he received from his parents, he will continue acting with the name 'Seiyo'.
Uchino said, "I don't know how much longer I will pursue my career as an actor, but I wanted to polish up my performance." He continued, "I'm sure there are people surprised by the sudden name change, but I hope to go by 'Uchino Seiyo' as my actor name."
Uchino is scheduled to appear in the stage play, 'TRUE WEST ~Honmono no Seibu~' (September to October 2013), and will also star in the movie, 'Ieji' (Spring 2014 release).

In other words, same kanji, just different pronounciation. Boy, actors! It's always something!

I think there can be a legitimate argument made that Misora Hibari was the most popular entertainer ever in Japan. During her professional career, which began when she was a child, she sold millions of records, put on thousands of stage shows and concerts, made over 150 films, and performed on television innumerable times. Furthermore, in the first few years following the war as Japan struggled, Misora, who was still not yet an adult, was singled out as the person who brought comfort and hope to a beaten weary people through her best-selling songs. In her prime she was a truly versatile performer whose singing, dancing, and acting ran the gamut from the traditional to the modern which made her popular with audiences of all ages.
Everything you ever wanted or needed to know right there. It looks like they have a sample of every song she ever recorded. You could spend a couple weeks and still not have heard everything!

Don't think I would want Beat Takeshi as my boss. Yes he can be hilarious, but I get the feeling if I wasn't doing a good job he wouldn't hesitate to cut my throat with a rusty razor.

ASKA arrested for possession of stimulants, denies charges
ASKA of the popular singing duo CHAGE and ASKA was arrested on suspicion of possessing stimulants on 6 April but had denied the accusation, according to reports on 17 May. ASKA was first named in some weekly magazines during July last year for being suspected of using drugs but had denied those reports. In response to the scandal, his agency also announced in October last year that ASKA was taking a break from his musical activities out of his own will.
Meanwhile, CHAGE also released his statement on their official website on 17 May where he commented that he had been waiting for ASKA to return to work but feels regretful that things have come to this stage. As ASKA's arrest had come as a surprise, CHAGE said that he is confused and not sure how he should respond for now but he will be taking on the scheduled fan club events on his own for the time being and promises to do his best. He also apologised for the worry and inconveniences caused to fans and related parties.
As for the duo's agency, they also released an apology statement for the worry caused to everyone and indicated that they will decide on the appropriate action after finding out more about ASKA's case.

To bad qilver doesn't come around anymore, this would be right up his alley:
Inaugural issue of Idol magazine "LIVE Idol Collection" to feature 28 groups
Japan's entertainment industry has entered what is called the "Idol Warrior Era" with idol groups saturating the market.
On top of idol groups that have made their major debut, there are also many groups known as "underground idols" who focus on live performances instead of making media appearances. The magazine "LIVE Idol Collection" by Gum Publishing will exclusively cover these underground idols. The inaugural issue, to be released on July 19, will feature a "Swimsuit Collection" where 28 popular groups from a pool of over 1000 groups will be featured in swimsuit. CANDY GO! GO!, one of the most popular groups, will also appear in the magazine.
On top of that, there will also be a popularity voting, and the winner of the voting will be featured on the cover of the next issue as well as be given the opportunity to hold a special live. The magazine also plans to hold a commemorative event from July 26 to August 2 at Tokyo Toyosu's Magic Beach.

This should pretty much kill any chance of a "Shomuni 5".
Makiko Esumi allegedly instigated former manager to commit vandalsim
According to the 28th August issue of "Shukan Bunshun", Esumi Makiko's former manager was reported to have exposed her for instigating him to commit vandalism at former pro-baseball player Nagashima Kazushige's new house back in 2012 due to a feud with the latter's wife. The manager who was working with Esumi at that time before she left her agency Ken-On in March this year and is still currently being employed by Ken-On, admitted to using spray paint to write abusive words such as "fool", "idiot" and "stupid son" on the outside walls of Nagashima's newly-built house in late 2012 which were published in the magazine. The manager also admitted to receiving JPY 100,000 for buying the spray paint. Industry insiders speculated that this manager could have been misled into thinking that Esumi's daughter had been bullied in school and that he was merely helping Esumi and had no personal grudge against the Nagashima family.
Apparently, the reason why this case came to light arose from the bullying controversy which Esumi had revealed recently on her blog. In her post one month ago, she had said that she was bullied by another group of mothers whose children are attending the same private school as her eldest daughter and that she had no idea why she was treated in this manner. However, soon after her post came to light, there was a report in Shukan Bunshun which had accused Esumi of being the bullying party rather than the victim and was said to have stirred up trouble among some of the mothers by telling untrue stories after receiving complaints from some of the members in the group said to be at odds with Esumi. At that time, the Nagashima family was not mentioned in such reports although it was hinted that one of the mothers in the rival group had celebrity connections. According to Shukan Bunshun's report, it was believed that Nagashima's wife is the leader of the group of mothers at odds with Esumi thus the vandalism act was said to be directed at her.
Ever since the report came to light, neither Esumi nor Nagashima have released any comments confirming or denying the story.
This is the second big crisis in Esumi's career ever since she was exposed for not paying the national pension insurance premium for 17 years despite being the image character of the campaign to promote prompt payment of the premiums. As a result, she had her CM deals withdrawn and had to take a break from acting until she bounced back into the limelight due to Ken-On's strong industry influence. However, it is believed that since she had already left Ken-On and that the agency would not want anything to do with this scandal, Esumi will find it more difficult to overcome this crisis especially if it is proven that the report is true.
Before this scandal, Esumi had declared widely that she is planning to retire from showbiz when she hits 50 years old i.e. in three years. However, due to this issue, she might have to retire sooner than expected if things get out of hand.

Makiko Esumi responds to vandalism scandal
Esumi Makiko finally updated her blog on 9 September in response to the recent vandalism scandal plaguing her. According to the 28 August issue of "Shukan Bunshun", Esumi was reportedly exposed by her former manager for instigating him to write graffitti on the walls and garage shutter of Nagashima Kazushige's house back in December 2012 due to a bullying dispute involving their children.
Esumi began by apologising to the public for the controversy surrounding this scandal and the worry and inconvenience caused to all parties involved. However, she denied knowledge of her former manager's actions until the article was published and even revealed that he had contacted her to apologise for the matter being blown out of proportion. Nonetheless, she would still offer her apologies to Nagashima for what happened due to her position (as an artiste whose former manager had done wrong). Esumi then ended her statement that in consideration for Nagashima, her former manager who is undergoing psychiatric treatment and her children, she would refrain from giving too many details on the situation and also apologised for the 12-day delay in releasing her statement.
