There's no doubt that your Japanese isn't perfect, but that's OK! Neither is mine... |

I have to humbly disagree but I appreciate the compliment My Japanese will never be near perfect though.....lB Plus I can understand a lot of stuff but I suck at explaining it. Sometimes things in Japanese make sense in my head, but are hard to explain. And I have much more trouble responding than understanding...cuz I panic and can't think fast enough. I did live in Japan for 3 months.....I was lucky enough to get by with just mediocre nihongo I needed it much more than I expected...

I know what you mean by having a hard time explaining stuff to others even though you understand it. That's what ticks me off, is when I'm minding my own business (on my lunch break for example) and someone else joins me (when I'm already watching a Japanese vid without subs) and asks me to translate word by work. ߂ǂ`@ق܂ɁI!! I just want to relax but rather than that, I have to think. Grrrrr. K, 'nuff venting already! But yeah, I understand 'cause I got stuck at a plateau like that before. I'm slowly getting out of it though!

Yeah, even simple things are hard to explain to newbies for me. Then when I get literal they go "What?". One example: uX肢܂vI would never ever tell anyone it means "Nice to meet you", LOL. I'm so picky...

That would PISS ME OFF. Even if I got my friends interested in j-ent in any way (hahah riiiiight), I would have to pause, translate, play, pause, repeat cycle......because I'm not fast enough and can't spit out a good explanation without going literal and confusing the hell out of them, then trying to put it in English that makes sense, lol.
When I was in Japan, it was study abroad so I lived around other foreigners. They complained the TV sucked, but I got a kick out of it because I was exposed to it since years ago....and I understood enough of it We would sit in a common apartment to watch TV on satellite because we didn't have cable in our own apartments. We would watch a j-show and I'd start laughing if it was funny or Smap or Sanma or whatever (etc etc), then people would look at me like I have Tourettes Syndrome. That's no fun While when people understood, they'd join in and stuff but it didn't happen enough though. I ain't one to sit and translate though....I'd just enjoy it and shut up most of the time. I would feel like a wannabe knowitall if I did that. Then a point would come where I probably wouldn't be able to do it. Times come in watching raw shows where I have to pause and grab a jisho....a lot

The worst is trying to speak Japanese drunk.......LOL. That's the REAL test. I can do it, but slowly and not very well...or detailed.

I think I've got that down with all the drinking I do and all...........
Plus, I don't know why, but I tend to speak more Japanese than English when I'm drunk.

Why would that constitute as (whoever is chosen) a mod's duty? Correct me if I'm wrong, but why would subbing someone's drama be considered a first official duty when it really has nothing to do with this forum? Just a thought. _________________

Yeah, it's a lot of work and there's no satisfaction in it because it'll probably be for someone who they don't even know anyway. I know I wouldn't do such a thing for someone who I didn't really know. Waste of my time.

Who? You? Surely you jest.
Would you jump to such a chance if you were chosen as a mod?
Just wondering...
Be realistic here. That is off-the-wall request. (IMO)

"Uwaa! Taihen da yo ne". Roughly meaning "That's difficult/a pain in the ass".
I figured you were joking because that's a crazy suggestion for a requirement, IMO. I wouldn't have thought you were serious. If you were, that would be really demanding and kinda unrealistic. Whoever ends up being mod may not necessarily be fluent enough to do it anyway. Some people don't have a lot of free time and spend that in leisure activities. Modding would take a few minutes out of someone's day while they are at the forum anyway.
Translating and transcibing 45-50 minute episodes (400-500 or more lines per ep) could take hours per day, for weeks, and even months. It's a hell of a lot to ask for someone just volunteering to mod a forum. How exactly would they benefit? Taking weeks and weeks to do a good deed for something they don't benefit from just to hold another position as a mod, which takes a few minutes a day? Bump that. So that's why I assumed you were joking.
