Well, within the last 24 hours or so, oshin377 has ended early all of his sales of JN Production's copyrighted dramas. He's still selling JEM and JTV dramas. One step at a time...

All English-only speaking people like myself prefer Japanese dramas with English subtitles. However, we are not supposed to be going out and buying them from bootleggers. What you want doesn't make it okay to go out and buy it.
xuanie wrote: | besides, i feel that those people downloading from BT are also making use of one another.. i mean, downloaders do not even need to pay a cent to watch the whole drama. |
That's called "trading". You're supposed to use one another in trading. That's what trading's all about! Capturers like JTV and JEM put out their works for the sole pupose of trading, not for some sleeze ball on eBay to sell them and make a buck.
xuanie wrote: | pls correct me if im wrong. im quite confused now that there's no more fan subed dramas / animes for me to buy |
I think you're not visualizing the big picture here. You're basically thinking about your own needs and not the rights of those who actually make the stuff you're potentially stealing...
1) the English-subbed dramas you see on eBay are all illegal, UNLESS the set is licensed by the company that produced the drama. However, FUJI-TV, NHK, TBS, TV Asahi, and virtually all the other Japanese production companies and networks have never put out a licensed product that includes English subtitles up for sale. And, legal subbing companies like Nippon Golden Network or JN Productions have never released their works for retail sale.
2) Fan subbed dramas are also illegal. When you translate Japanese to English, the English subtitles are still linked to the Japanese spoken, which is in fact makes the English subtitles also protected by the original copyright owner. Doesn't seem fair, but that's how copyright law works.
So basically, if you buy English subtitled Japanese dramas, what you're buying is illegal, and in turn as a buyer you're also committing a crime in infringing on the copyright protection for that product.

I can count at least 3 of them even opened an eBay Store.
Chances are, you shut 1 down, 3 more is ready to jump in.
Just my 2 cents! |
Yes, you're very right now that... It's too fricking easy to create an eBay account. There's no way you can stop them.

I thought about that idea at one time... Unfortunately, eBay wouldn't allow it. They're really cracking down on 3rd-party links. There's a clearly written rule at their site where you're not allowed to post a bid, advertising anything outside of eBay. One time, I auctioned off a computer part, linking people to my site to buy additional stuff. eBay immediately shut down the bid, and threatened to suspend my account if I continued the practice.
But you know... I could post a bid, selling a blank CD-R disc for one-cent, and ship the disc for free. Then in the bid, put in keywords like "japanese", "drama", "eng" "english", and also add in the more popular titles into the bid. Then, in the body of the bid, put in my anti-fanwork selling propaganda messages. I think it would be worth myself paying for the 60-cent stamp to mail the disc if someone were to actually bid on blank disc. It would be worth the money just to educate the buyers.
