Yeah, Viola was the odds-on favorite to win... Very surprising.

I would've expected a body count in the movie considering Scorcese directed. Beaten

I highly recommend the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. The original Swedish films, not the American remake. Excellent suspense films. Available on Netflix.

A co-worker from Sweden told me about that trilogy, but it didn't pique my interest for some reason. Sweat

Right on. It's intense man. I really enjoyed it. Well you can queue it up if you ever change your mind. Also available on Prime, too.

So, the Oscars are going to add a "most popular" category:https://variety.com/2018/film/news/oscars-popular-film-category-what-it-means-1202899599/

Imagine if they'd had it in 1984. Then we'd see ads for that "Oscar winning film", , , , "Police Academy". Bonk Bang Head Shake Head

Is it too late to comment on something posted over six years ago?

I thought the first film was excellent, the second decent, the third lousy. Noomi Rapace, who played the titular character, was memorable in that role.

Over the last decade I have invested a lot of time and money into foreign crime series. I especially enjoy the Scandinavian ones, from Denmark and Sweden in particular. Astonishing how a small country like Denmark could produce so many outstanding series, even more than big neighbor Sweden. Tiny Iceland also came out with a crime drama a couple of years ago that I enjoyed immensely (they're working on a sequel as I speak).

Years ago I used to watch a lot of British crime series; they still come out with the occasional impressive one, but I liked the older ones more.

France has produced a couple of crime series I liked.

Justified was the last really good American crime series I watched. But to be fair, I don't watch any American dramas anymore--the exception is zombie crap because that's what my significant other is into; I dunno why she likes that mind-numbing junk, but anything to keep her happy . . . .

And it's been years since I've watched a dorama. Don't know if I'm missing anything, given how disappointed I was in the quality of dorama in the years leading up to when I finally said no mas.

Well whaddya know, Anne Watanabe was here for the Oscars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSBf23p-niY&t=248s

At about 4:25 in the video when she goes to get coffee and some other stuff, I know exactly where that is. The corner of Sunset and Cahuenga in Hollywood. Several big hotels in the area, she probably stayed at one of them while here. Amoeba Records used to be across the street but they've moved over to Hollywood Blvd.

^ Funny that she bought some peanut butter. I was in Europe for one summer and the one thing I couldn't find anywhere was peanut butter! As soon as I got back to the States the first thing to do was get some peanut butter. Drooling

She mentioned applauding by the audience at the end of a movie. I think that's a Los Angeles thing more than American. I've seen movies in a lot of different cities, LA is the only one where the audience applauds. Which I've never understood. The actors can't hear you, they don't even know you're alive. Crazy
