I think the music scene in Japan has been changed very much, and there has never been a group like w-inds. (Singing in beautiful high tone voice, cool dance and raps, 'kawaii' or 'kirei' looks, and sometimes funny talk!)

Though w-inds. are kinds of junior (or successor) of DA PUMP, they have different colours. w-inds.' are mixture of 'kawaii' and 'kakkoii', I think.
It's true that if an artist has only 'kawaii' factor, its popularity doesn't stay for so long. But one who can appeal some factors, or shift from 'kawaii' to 'kakkoii' smoothly, the one can achieve a success and stay for long.

w-inds. wouldn't have achieved present popularity with only 'kawaii' factors, without their abilities of singing and dancing (or without GOOD SONGS to perform!). So, I think they can go well if they continue to make efforts of growing such abilities, and perhaps increase 'kakkoii' factors year by year.
(Keita seems to have been able to keep his 5 octave voice after his voice changing (breaking), that's good! )

They will release their new maxi single "Pieces" on 10th March in Japan.

In fact, when I first saw their PV on TV, round about the time they debut... I couldnt make out if they were girls or boys (sheepish) .

This year, I heard one of their singles Long Road ... LOVE the song! Was pleasantly surprised when I saw the name W-inds.... Knew they were popular, but to me, W-inds' the group that I couldn't figure out their gender. I dug up their Long Road PV and ...they've all grown up! (obviously, I've grown old too)... And their dancing is great. I tend to agree with sweetnote, that they just might be making a nice transition to kakkoii.

EDIT: I would like to add that I think the live journal is a fake..how he would at ne? or common Japanese words seems fake to me..
also what he writes about Ryuichi it makes him sound gay lets hope its not him.

really it was i thought that was released in the summer. . .i didnt know about them until the end of dec...and i havent heard about them since

I read somewhere that there was a talent show, and Keita got picked as a vocalist, and then Ryohei & Ryuichi got picked for being really good dancers...and then they formed w-inds XD

I really like Kirei da, the PV was cute too

What I'm curious about is how Keita, from Fukuoka, got joined with Ryohei and Ryuchi of Sapporo...those are very far apart in Japan.....

PS: I don't think they're the greatest....they are good but the lyrics arent't too catchy, they're mostly cute....

well I like some of the music composed, just using some English words within their songs didn't seem to flow too well....Even though I only have the "System of Alive" CD I kind of didn't enjoy the use of :

''Break down the road I've walked and build up the brand new road''

didn't seem catchy too much...

I only recently started listening to their music, and it's not that bad. It is really catchy, though ^^ I love the backstage stuff--they're really funny ^^
Well, anyway, I was wondering anyone knew any really good English w-inds. fansites. I'm looking for a detailed (seriously detailed) chronology from the beginning of their career until recently. I've been looking and can't seem to find one... does anyone know where I can find one?

Well, I just can't tell you so much about them here. But I own a fan site dedicated to w-inds. Check it out at my signature! It's English but it's not definitely useful site for you as much.

Keita Tachibana is the vocal of this group. He went to audition with about 8,000 people there! And he won! Then he met Ryohei and Ryuichi at the dance school in Tokyo. Both are from Sapporo, Hokkaido but Keita is from Fukuoka. And that reason started the name, w-inds. (From different parts of Japan). Ryuichi & Ryohei are very good at RAPing so they are the chorus and rapper of the group. They showed their performances by singing and dancing on the street and that made people knew them well before they appeared on any radios or tvs or as easy word : before becoming the stars. They debuted their first single called 'Forever Memories' in 2001. At the time they are about only 15!

And ever since until now, they got 12 singles and 3 albums! And also were a part of Star Light movie! as well as 2 successful tour concerts!

Anyway, I haven't read any pages of this topic before. So there might be someone posted the info before me. And I'm sorry then.

P.S. I can't really tell you who is the LEADER of w-inds. But Keita is the MAIN vocal and Ryohei is the OLDEST. (1 year difference from the others two.)
