I have the Windows IME that comes with the Japanese Microsoft Office package (IME2002, I believe), and I know to get the star, I type in:

ق

and then the space bar to get:

 or

In the settings, there is an option to include all of the symbols, which allows you to get this kinda stuff:

♥@í[Ɓj etc.

I don't know if the one you can download from Microsoft's site will allow you to type them in, but you can try.

Good luck

does anyone knows how to get the IME back? I let a friend and his kid come to my house over a couple of days ago, and i didn't know it at the time, but he was playing with the mouse and keyboard and although nothing big became of it, now i can't my IME to show up.

should i just redownload/ and reinstall it? of is there a way i can "bring it back"?

Try this: (WinXP)
Start->Control Panel->Regional and Language Options

Under the Languages tab, click Details... then Language Bar, and make sure that Show the Language Bar on Desktop is checked. In fact, I would uncheck and check the box just to make sure that something changes.

Thanks for the write up Ocha Orts. Good

The WinXP IME bar is so buggy, mine has stopped responding or showing any options on the language bar, but the Alt-grave shortcut you mention allows me to continue.

Hey evie!
Nope, this is exactly the place that you want to be asking Victory! Peace!
Thanks for taking the time to look for the correct thread Beaten

If you are able to write in Japanese, that means you already have a Japanese font installed. You just have to set your computer to allow all programs to use unicode fonts.

Try this:

Go to "Control Panel"

Go to "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options"

Go to "Regional and Language Options"

Go to the "Advanced" tab in the window that opens

In the pull-down menu under "Language for non-Unicode Programs," choose "Japanese."

Restart your computer, and you should be able to use Japanese in Photoshop. I have Photoshop CS, and no problems using Japanese in it, so that should fix your problem.

If it doesn't, post again, and we'll try something else Victory! Peace!

HTH,

Really?
Do you have WindowsXP? If you do, you don't need NJ Star.

Can anyone tell me how to type in ' ' but with the quotation mark thingy at the end (the same as when becomes or when becomes ). I just don't know how to type it in with an American keyboard. Thanks.

Help me find some software

i know this is a thread for windows help, but does anyone know any programs that work for macs? my sensei, hiromi kinjo, is not computer savvy and her old mac took a poop, so she's getting the new imac and she's stated that the only program she knows is like 5 yrs old! She's in need of a program that easy to use for word processing and has some versatility ie lets you do "ruby", type up kanji with hiragana on top. and im not sure what else but whatever would work for someone teaching japanese classes! and i mean a lot of japanese classes all over the west LA for many years!

I dont know if anyone knows what's but if you can help it would be a blessing.

As long as her imac runs the newest OS, it will already have Japanese support in it:

http://redcocoon.org/cab/mysoft.html#sysanchor

Other than that, all she needs is a document creation program such as Word for Mac OS, or whatever Macintosh has as its default word editing program.

Not much help, but it's the best this Windows user can do Beaten

Hi guys I need help. I've got windows XP and I'm trying to get this JP writing thing to work, but the 'A' isnt' appearing. When I try to write with it, it does the writing in Katagana but I can't seem to convert it into Hiragana either.

Can someone help me as to what I might be doing wrong?
