It should be built-in. Instead of typing it all out:

Another question with inputing JPN text. I've installed the JPN IME from microsoft a long time go, and it had been working great. Recently however, it has been failing me in firefox, check the screen shot:

The top screen is my internet in WinExplorer and you can see that I can chnge between hiragana/katakana/ & english.

The bottom screen however, is in firefox (my prefered web browser). Supposeebly, it says you can toggle between JP & Eng. However, when it is toggled to JPN, when i try to type in something, it just gives katakana that does not makes sense. Has anyone ever experienced this? Can anyone help? This just happen recently for the first time and I'm a bit perplexed. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to re-select it per applications.

By default, the input mode is "direct input" (roman characters). You can change the input by hitting Alt+Caps Lock. It should switch from D.I. to hiragana, to full-width katakana.

I had problems last week. I couldn't change the imput mode. It got stuck in katakana for some reason. I had to restart the programs a few times and even reboot once. I don't know why. Could be a new patch that causes problems.
It happens every time when I kept switching between hiragana and katakana. I had a small toolbar too, even tho I'm suppose to have the full bar with text too... Confused I found a way to skip it. I just type in hiragana the word I want in katakana. When I press space bar, it converts it in katakana 90% of the time. Big Grin

You're welcome. Mr Green

Maybe someone should report the problem to Microsoft.

Have you tried the instructions for Windows Vista? I have Vista Basic, and set up Japanese input fine. I posted a link to instructions a few pages back I think. *goes off to find them*

EDIT: here's what I used to install Japanese input. (Scroll up the page a bit) -
