Maxwell food market!! And the ham chee peng (that fried dough thingy with red bean paste) there is excellent! Take mrt down to tanjong pagar and walk. Newton circus food centre is great too!! If you want seafood you can try Punggol seafood restaurant (they have one outlet at hougang mall -- that's my fav seafood restaurant). Well, these are what juz came to my mind... there are many more places Mr Green

singapore..... Google

people are generally nice. weather is too hot and humid. Nut

food is good. and other than that, not much to see. its getting way overcrowded.

it is also aptly called the Air-Conditioned Nation. all its layers of meanings included.

You can take the train using the new north east line to hougang... come up from the station and you'll see the mall i think. Alternatively you can take bus 74 from ang mo kio mrt station...

Japanese restaurant? yah, I think there's one there... but not sure what their famous for Sweat Wisma used to have Hoshigaoka, but now no more Sad it's one of my favourites coz they serve really good bentos there. Now the only branches left in town are those in Centrepoint and Isetan Scotts, if I'm not wrong...

IMM has some really nice jap restaurants too. i know there's 1 tiny restaurant selling real japanese food (unlike all the other restaurants with a tad of singaporean taste). the sushi chef is a japanese, and his father has a huge sushi shop in japan.

heard this sushi chef will greet his customers at the entrance. n also heard that singaporeans cant afford to eat those food in there cos the price is rather steep.

any1 tried before? Nut

Jules, did you go to the basement of Suntec? Where the restaurants are located in a circle and a wishing fountain. There is 2 japanese restaurant.
Near Suntec, there is another building Millenia Walk, a Sushi Tel restaurant is located there too.

being a singaporean and having visited canada, and now working in america, i think i can say all 3 countries are different. canada may be similar to america...but singapore...nah...too different.

singapore is SMALL. very very small. but because our speed limit is lower makes travelling from one place to another a bit longer than necessary. one can probably walk from place to place if one is up for it. i have seen a lot of foreigners do backpacking in singapore.

singapore is hot and humid. very bad combination. you can never get close to that type of weather over here in america or canada. hot yes, humid, no. the weather is very dry over here. it is sumemr all year round...so don't wear too much clothes. be prepared to get a tan and sweat a lot.

singapore is clean and green. you never see so many trees over here in america. it gives a sense of freshness and beauty...despite the humidity.

singapore is known for it's various food. there are so many options to choose from, chinese, indian, malay etc. if you are brave enough to test your stomach and the humidity, go to one of the outdoor hawker centers. the food is good...but a bit "dirty" sometimes.

hmm...now i feel hungry...at least i am heading back to singapore for holiday come next thursday...cannot wait to eat all the food again...*stomach groan*

Smile

One thing i hate abt Singapore is the hectic working schedule and environment and also the education system! Well, the education system is good indeed but in my personal opinion, they're killing you by stressing and adding pressure.

Oh man. I so agree. Year after year, they will make a change in the system that pressures students even more... i can only wait, wait, and wait. probably another... 5/6 years of torture?!

Is that restaurant called 'Hoshi'? I don't think so, 'cos it certainly isn't SMALL.. and it has a hint of Singaporean taste as well.

About Suntec's basement having 2 Japanese restaurants.. well yeah, I just went there and walked past one of them... it's called 'Fiesta' with a big logo of a fish, if you need to know.

I don't know the other one...

Food recommendations? Too many... but i'm quite sure that here, most of the stuff which are oily/unhealthy are DELICIOUS. (sporeans... think char kway teow, you tiao, hokkien mee etc etc...)
