Watching Rooftop Prince...Four guys travel 300 years to the present to solve a murder. It's a comedy with romance...mystery with romance...suspence with romance...action with romance...and romance with romance...

Finished Moon Embracing the Sun, a few years after I watched it for the first time. The second half was disappointing like I thought, failed to live up to the early promise and potential in the first 6 episodes.

I'm amazed you had a second go. I like Kim Soo-hyun, but I couldn't sit through that drama for him. Bailed at the halfway mark.

I finished Goodbye Mr Black. Hot men, zero logic, and sadly not the death I was hoping for. But at least I'm more inclined to check out Lee Jin-wook's other dramas.

Watched Cheongdam-dong Alice...fun fun fun...about a poor but very smart girl who chases a CEO through an assistant who happens to be the CEO...

The guy's name is Jean Thierry Cha but in the first episode the name plate on his desk is misspelled Jane Thierry Cha...

I have an eye for those things...

I really like Kim Yoo Jung and the first 6 episodes. Skipped most of the last few episodes, just wanted to see the ending for the characters.

Started watching Six Flying Dragons last night. Shin Se-Kyung is the only reason I started it. She is so pretty in it. She did a great job with her character too, it's so strong and vulnerable at the same time, compassionate and independent, I really like her in it. The drama is pretty good too, lot of good acting. Heavily plot driven but characters are well defined too. Kim Myung-Min is a great actor. I don't really like the two main characters but the supporting ones are good. The politics and negotiations were not interesting most of the time, I usually skipped them.

Got tired of Six Flying Dragons around episode 25, but I will probably skimmed through the rest of it later.

Watched most of Fashion King. It was really good, especially the first few episodes. It doesn't focus much on the fashion design aspect, it's more about building a business and pursuing a dream together. Yoo Ah-in was very charismatic and Shin Se-kyung was so beautiful. A couple of the plot development were incomprehensible but the bond and relationship between the two leads carried the series and kept me glued to the screen for hours at a time. I read about the terrible ending though so am not sure if I will finish it.

If there's a thread you're not interested in, nobody's making you open it up and read it. The name of the site is "JDorama" but it's not only for talking about Japanese dramas. We have threads about a lot of things,

shoes:http://www.jdorama.com/viewpost.944028.htm#944028

shaving:http://www.jdorama.com/viewpost.939778.htm#939778

even how often somebody brushes their teeth:http://www.jdorama.com/viewpost.535563.htm#535563

Although thankfully, that ones locked. The site is not just limited to Japanese dramas.

Turns out Six Flying Dragons got exciting just after when I stopped watching at episode 25. The sword fight scenes in this is on another level from what I have seen in Korean drama. Usually not a fan of action but I made sure I watched all the fights in this. The accompanying soundtrack/music was great for those scenes.

Nearly finished with Six Flying Dragons. Skip-watched up to episode 49. It's definitely a high quality production. The psychological aspects and the battle of wits/minds stood out for me. It talks a lot about power, how you need power to achieve goals but after doing what's needed to get into a position of power, those people are not who they were when they started the journey. Some of the characters were so wrapped up in the traditional and academic ways of thinking, it's hard to understand or sympathize with them. In the end, there's no faction who is completely right or wrong, it's often a battle of egos, driven by selfishness. The sometimes irrational, ridiculous decisions by highly intelligent people in power only lead to suffering and sacrifice of innocent, ordinary people. It's hard to remember what they were fighting for in the first place. The endless power struggles got on my nerves, I only kept watching to see the ending of the more likeable characters. There were sprinklings of warmth and comradery between family and friends, those are nice.

Just finished it. Nice ending. Glad there was finally some quality couple screentime.

Watching High Kick Through the Roof now. It's so funny! rofl I don't remember laughing so hard watching a Korean drama before. It does take some getting used to and feel a bit long at times but the laughs are well worth it. I have seen most of Shin Se-Kyung's dramas now and this is probably her best role.

I just finished Goodbye Mr.Black and really liked it. I would like now to find it again with some sub titles. I don't speak Korean despite watching for many years but at least the acting was good here and I more or less caught the main run of the plot. Lots of scenes with Jin Woo and the girl and apparently he asked the director for more of the 'kissing scenes' and they certainly warmed it up. He is a good actor also

Peggy.

Just finished High Kick Through the Roof. The first half was really good. The second half felt a bit flat and I can understand why people get upset about the (open) ending. I guess it allowed the audience to imagine what they like, in a way. The relationships between the four main young characters were well acted but there is not much story at all in the second half. It really relied on the cast who did a great job.

On and off watching A Beautiful Mind. Jang Hyuk is turning in a powerhouse performance as Lee Young-oh and pretty much carrying the drama. The medical stuff is best not taken too seriously, but acting is generally decent on all counts. So far, a pretty compelling story.

So I got impatient waiting for new episodes of HOPE and watched most of the original Korean drama, Misaeng (Incomplete Life). It's about office work in a large international trading corporation.

TvN is some network, probably the best Asian network in producing TV dramas in the last few years. The problem with this series is sometimes it get bogged down by all the work details. There are times when I did not understand what they were talking about, it probably takes some understanding and experience to make sense of it all. But it's incredible in its realistic depiction of the workplace and people. It's at time ridiculous, non-sensical, selfish, petty but there's also undeniable charisma to hard working people working together to pursue a common goal. Their drive, dedication, struggles are very attractive to watch and compelling. Most of the time it's just normal people trying to deal with realities as best they can.

The working culture depicted was very class-defined and sexist at times, it's probably dramatized but still horrible to imagine what it's like in Asian offices. The 4 new employees were all placed in different teams and for the majority of times, they all had to deal with their own struggles individually. Apart from the main character, the others' story are not that interesting although they certainly reflect realistic situations. I wish they had more screen time and story together, but that's probably not very realistic. It's certainly very educational for people leaving school and entering society for the first time, I wish I could have seen this when I was at that stage.

In the finale week of Beautiful Mind. Jang Hyuk is truly superb in this and I hope awards come tumbling at his feet because he deserves it. I also love his chemistry with Park So-dam, they're so adorable together. The storytelling does have flaws, but overall it's a solid piece of work. Just hoping it ends on a strong, stirring note.

Started watching Doctors. Acting is good but nothing special about the writing or the story. It's just romance between doctors with the occasional surgery. Not going to continue.

Watching Let's Fight Ghost. It's about a university student who can see and fight ghost, and a school girl who died but can't remember a thing about her life. Together, they live together and go to different places to fight and evist ghosts.

Kim So-Hyun is really cute and she's pretty much the only reason I keep watching this. The supporting cast is average and uninteresting. It's kind of fun, nothing special about the story though, I skipped a lot of the suspense scenes.

I watched Beautiful Mind too. Skipped a lot in the second half. I was only watching to see Pak So Dam.

I like how it doesn't insult your intelligence by repeating flashback every 5 minutes but the story was really hard to follow. The two initial mystery were so surprising that I found the plot to be lacking credibility and misled me into thinking this is a medical investigative/detective drama, when it's really a character transformation. They didn't drop enough hints and made it intriguing enough for me to care. A lot of it is psychological and I couldn't get a good handle on how it developed. Pak So Dam looks so young compared with Jang Hyuk, she didn't get enough screen time or story to be convincing as the catalyst who transformed him.

Started watching Cinderella and the four knights, and Love in the Moonlight.

Cinderella is better than expected but still terribly cliche. If I didn't find Pak So Dam to be totally adorable, I don't think I would have continued watching. She looks so different to every other Korean actress, and so much younger than her age.

Kim Yoo Jung is so good in Love in the Moonlight. I liked her in the past but after only 2 episodes, I think she has taken the place as my favourite Korean actress. Her acting is so varied and rich, there is so much she gets across. The drama itself is fun to watch. Eagerly looking forward to it.

Well, they had KBS to thank for cutting two episodes, otherwise I believe the story would have filled out better.

The age gap is written into the story, so I think it works well. Jin-sung is young and idealistic, while Young-oh is jaded and cynical. Yet, she provides the clarity and simplicity he needs in breaking down and deciphering emotions. Her impact is not in big situations, but in the little moments - simple home truths, a line here, an observation there, and just by being there for him and with him. And the important thing is that she chooses not to view him within the narrow parameters of his disorder. While he holds her back when she tries to take on more than she can handle or becomes overly emotional, and helps her see things from a more logical, less emotional perspective. Theirs is a pretty balanced relationship focused on effort and growth, and learning from each other.

I do agree the first four episodes were uneven, and the writing was a bit over the top for Jin-sung. But once it settled down in episode 5, I thought the drama progressed very well on most bases. Even with the cut, I thought the drama did what it could and ended on a fairly strong note. Someone mentioned the first four episodes were about setting up and then breaking down perceptions on and prejudices of ASPD sufferers, and I can certainly see the drama doing that.

I could write chunks more on this drama (already have 3 blog posts on it, haha) and am happy to discuss more if you are.

Also, Park So-dam and Jang Hyuk had some really nice chemistry, and they were adorable together. After seeing them together for seven weeks, I could not (as yet) visualise her with the likes of Jung Il-woo and Ahn Jae-hyun in Cinderella - I mean, the difference in quality is so... Still, I hear that ratings for Cinderella are slowly improving, so that's good. She's a solid young actress and I hope she gets more good roles in the future.

(edit: what the hell, it took me like 6 tries to post this comment... Beat You )
