I don't think you were surpose to watch this movie thinking what a great story line it has. Its more of a movie thats invokes nostalgia feelings and bitter sweet memories. Its about a simple girl leaving her home town in the country to goto the big city to pursue her love and to find something different from her everyday life at home.
Its not for everybody but its certainly not "silly and pointless".

I agree with that. It seem to be more of a short film.

It is not just the normal romantic comedy, action genre.
The VCD i got is just 1 disc so I expected it to be very short.
For me, I personally like this type of movie. The idea here is to
relax, your mind. No dramatic action, horror, or loud laughter please.
Some people may call it monotonous but a movie that does not have
too much ups or downs may be just the nice short escape for city dwellers.
In a small cosy room at night just before bed, watching April Story is just appropriate. Away from the city's hustle and bustle. Detach your normal perception on movies (one beginning, one happy/sad ending). |
I totally agree with you, in fact I watched it somewhere in the month of April (which was quite a coincidence ). I also bought this short film on VCD. I think the cinematography is very melodramatic and has created a very cozy ambience which made the viewers felt the friendliness of the story.
