Ah the Trick series! Another of my favourite Jdorama series. I started by watching a couple of clips on youtube, then my curiousity got the better of me and I went out to buy the dvds. Just finished watching season 3 last week.
That said, any of you inspired by this series? I mean the plots and techical details were all so well taught out. Everytime, I would try to figure out how the tricks were done. Most of the time I don't succeed, but just watching the pretty magician explain things really set my mind buzzing. Take a look around you in the real world. There really are so many of those con men or cult leaders out to fleece the ignorant of their money and more.
Heh, just for fun, and I hope I don't get into any more trouble with the moderators because what I am about to write next is not strictly related to the Tricks series per se but more like inspired by the series...
There are a couple of 'miracles' that I know of in my country. Well, people call them miracles but I say they are nothing more than magic tricks! Try and see if any of you can come up with a decent explanation for them.
'Miracle' #1 - On a somewhat regular basis, some Taoist priests (aka tang kis) would perform in front of a crowd during temple festivals. One of the stunts they would do involve dipping their hands into a pot of boiling oil. How? And that's done in full view of the spectators and I really did see the liquid in the pot boiling...
'Miracle' #2 - A monk, as he calls himself, helps his followers by giving out winning lottery numbers. He would prepare 2 envelopes and the follower would have to pick one. Needless to say, the follower was told that only one out of the two contain the real winning number. And the follower would only have to pay him for that service only if he actually wins. Where's the catch?
Have fun! And I hope I don't get into trouble again... What happens if I get 3 strikes in a row...?
On the 12th it was announced that Yukie Nakama (30) and Hiroshi Abe (45) will be reuniting for a 3rd gTrickh film, 4 years after the previous installment. Due out in Spring 2010, the film will be titled gGekijoban Trick: Reinosha Battle Royaleh (reinosha = spiritual medium) and will be directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Filming began on October 15th and should be completed by the end of December.
Trick was originally a TV drama which first aired on TV Asahi in 2000 and continued on for 2 addition seasons, a TV special, and 2 theatrically released films. In season 1, Nakama played a talented but struggling magician named Naoko Yamada who answers an ad from a stuffy physics professor and fierce skeptic of all things non-scientific named Jiro Ueda (Abe). He offers a cash reward for anyone who can prove to him magic exists. Naoko dazzles the professor with a few simple tricks, and he enlists her help in his investigation of a mysterious cult. Yamadafs insight into the world of magic and trickery becomes invaluable to Ueda, and the pair continue pairing up to debunk various spiritualists and charlatans.
The new film is set in a village which is holding a gspiritual medium battle royaleh to replace their former leader, Kamihaeru, whom they believed to be a powerful clairvoyant. It is said that they have 100 days to replace Kamihaeru or harm will come to the village. Yamada decides to utilize her talents in the event to earn some cold hard cash, and Ueda reluctantly tags along in the hopes of putting a stop to the battle.
Yoko Nogiwa, Katsuhisa Namase, Ken Matsudaira, Takeru Sato, Keiko Toda and Kaho also star.
It was also announced that a new TV anniversary special, gTrick Daikanshasaih, will be produced for TV Asahi next year to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the original Trick drama series. Many of the same people involved in the film will also be working on the drama, which should be completed by early April.

More than Gokusen
I've seen Trick 1 & 2 and love it. Didn't realize they already released 2 movies until I saw this article.

'TRICK' series to reach final conclusion with 4th film
Director Tsutsumi Yukihiko is going to conclude the very popular 'TRICK' series - starring Nakama Yukie and Abe Hiroshi - with a fourth feature-length film titled 'TRICK: Last Stage'.
The fourth installment is said to become the most ambitious film in the series, and it's going be the first time that some of the filming will take place in foreign locations. Of course, there will be a lot of gags in typical 'TRICK' fashion, but all the fans of the series are bound to shed tears after this film according to Director Tsutsumi. At the same time, it's going to maintain that certain charm of the series that will even allow people who have never watched the drama or the films to enjoy it as much as everyone else.
Nakama and Abe are going to be joined by the well-known regular cast from the previous dramas and films, including Namase Katsuhisa and Nogiwa Yoko. Starting with the upcoming summer drama 'Keibuho Yabe Kenzo 2', there are going to be various promotions for the movie's Japanese premiere sometime in January of 2014.
