at best, the first 2 and last 2 days... but we're planning an abalone trip for second week of august.
Well I live in NY so I won't be attending this festival, but if you keep everyone here posted as to when and where your buddy is playing the Taiko drums and when you are attending, then who knows you might get to meet and greet some of your local board members.

No I have never eaten there Tu_triky but if I'm in that area I'll keep it in mind. Say do we have a Nisei Festival in NY or NJ, I wonder? It sounds like a really nice festival.

if you did i would be really surprised...because the word "NISEI" means second generation Japanese American...celebrating descendents of Japanese immigrants here in the United States and historically that has been a predominantly WEST COAST phenomenon....I don't think many Japanese people immigrated to New York or the East Coast when they left Japan back in the late 19th or early 20th century....
i'm not saying this is dispositive but you catch my drift...

Yeah thanks Tu_triky for the explanation I actually did know what it meant. I used to work near the Canon Company on Long Island, NY and I thought perhaps some of the Japanese living on the north shore or in NJ might hold some type of festival, perhaps not specifically Nisei but some other type of Japanese festival in these parts in the summer. I'll have to go do some investigating. I know there was a Sakura festival in Queens during the cherry blossom season.

I'll probably go on the 13-14. I wanna go to the Anime Festival and the Tofu Festival. Hopefully, I won't get snookered into carrying that mikoshi again. _________________

Oh man, did they have that last year?
I was there in 2003 when they had it and it got pretty wild, especially after the parade...
sounds interesting, didnt' know they had one of these.
btw: the SJ obon last week was quite small, the food was ok, i think the one in Mt. View was a bit larger, and heard they had one in SF, that i missed out on. I think the ones in So Cal are better, probably because there are more japanese living here. How big is the LA obon? any good?
