Where did you find this series? I was looking forward and waiting for it, but it never appeared in any of the forums I visited. |
I was over at the local Japanese video store yesterday, they didn't have any movies that looked particulary good, so I picked it up instead. It's not subbed and I'm not saying my Japanese is all that great but I am able to understand most of it.
You're right, it is kind of surprising no one's picked it up to sub it. It's got TETSUYA from Exile in it so that should be enough for at least a few fangirls to be interested.
Now that I think about it, this drama aired in Japan in April/May 2011 just a month after the earthquake, that could be why a lot of people missed it.

how was Lucky Seven first ep? |
I watched it - it was a light and fast watch but not very original. MatsuJun joins an oddball agency where the employees bicker but have their hearts on the right spot. The first case was mildly interesting. I missed episode two but currently watching the 3rd one.
Also checked out Hungry! Very likable characters and if they manage to avoid to turn this into a typical love story drama and concentrate on the difficulties of running a business I will like it. Lovely food presentations too!
I like my police dramas and Takeuchi Yuko is lovely anyway so I had to check out Strawberry Night. Watched the SP TV movie first and I would recommend that to any interested viewer. I like that the police officers are somewhat damaged goods with seemingly interesting issues. Hope we will learn more about it. On the negative side: plot holes and plenty of super crazy serial killers, and the *yawn* women can not succeed in the police force stereotype (why would the police promote a young woman to higher ranks if she wasn't good?).

Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi is brilliant, Akashiya Sanma is great in that drama.Just finished Nagareboshi, I can't say I was a great fan of either Takenouchi Yutaka or Aya Ueto until I watched this but they both did really great in this one.I really enjoyed it.Yutaka must be one of the few people that actually look older without his usual beard/mustache ...it gave him a sad air but it suited him for the drama .

Oh before I forget it, I checked out Ending Planner with Yamapi (let's swoon like it's 2005) and Sorimachi Takashi (swoon like it's 1997). I really liked the first episode despite the many wooden actors/idols. But the subsequent episodes have been so boring and that's not the wooden people's fault but the scriptwriter's. More family drama, less boring cases please. |
Death knell for Sorimachi Takashi's acting career? His wife has better luck with Lucky Seven although she doesn't seem to be the lead.
Thanks for the feedback. There are enough good dramas this spring....will give Ending Planner a miss.

Strictly speaking, I think the AKB48 chick was the only J-Popper on the show.
Besides Zettai Kareshi, this series reminded me of that American robot-girl sitcom from the '80s, Small Wonder. But compared to ZK I thought Heita and Q10's relationship had a lovely bittersweetness that I didn't see in Night-o and Aibu Saki. And Maeda Atsuko did well playing a robot (and I don't mean that in a bad way). The writing fingerprints of Kizara Izumi (Nobuta wo Produce) are also hard to miss -- introspective voice-overs from teenage male protag as he grapples with profound life truths; high school slice-of-life moments, etc. I wouldn't put Q10 in the same league as NwP for sure, but found it an OK watch overall.

I lurve this! (But YamaPi was weird and scrawny back in 2005. Sure you didn't mean 2007 onwards? )
I haven't seen an episode, but I thought the premise was interesting -- something of a cross between Lunch Queen and Departures. Was I right to expect this? No?

Just finished RANMA 1/2 SP. As a former rabid Ranma 1/2 anime & manga enthusiast, I'm wishing this low-rent SP had never been made. Was this NTV's idea of a joke??? Nothing in the SP resembled anything from the original works. Nothing. I used to think that Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo 2005 was the crappiest tanpatsu I'd ever seen, but now I'm not too sure...
Currently on Ep. 1 of YOUKAI NINGEN BEM. Was trying to decide between this and KimuTaku Goes to Antarctica... but silver-haired Kame won out.

It is, save for that one great scene where Kame gets his sorry butt flipped through the floor...
