It has been announced that actress Yoshitaka Yuriko (21) finally landed her first starring role in a dorama. The new dorama called "Mioka" will start start in July and is based on a novel written by Ishida Ira. Yoshitaka will play Mioka, a girl struck with an incurable illness. "At first I was really surprised. Really? The starring role? The anxiety and pressure is truly overwhelming. I think it will take a lot of energy to play this Mioka." She commented on her first starring role.
Mioka is aware that she is facing death with her incurable brain disease and tries to live every day to the fullest. Of course she isn't alone, there are her boyfriend, her family, the doctors and her friends that support her the best they can. It will be a story all about the importance of love and what it means to be alive. Yoshitaka has a strong personality and will put all her effort into the role. She already has some hospital experiences herself. In 2007 she got involved into a severe traffic accident and had to be taken to an ICU. She suffered from a broken jaw and several bone fractures.
"You never really know what is on Mioka's mind. She doesn't really approach others, but on the other hand she doesn't want to leave the people who are around her. She never loses that side of her and it actually might be one of her most charming features. Therefore it's even more important for me to play that side of her with utmost care." Yoshitaka explained her role.
The producer about picking Yoshitaka for the role: "It's a dorama about an illness. There are many earnestly living young woman, but there is nobody like Mioka. There is something unique about Yoshitaka-san as well and she's a really individual actress. That's exactly the kind of woman we needed for this role."
Young actor Hayashi Kento (19) will play Mioka's boyfriend Taichi and is going to have a tough time portraying such a passionate and painful love. Aside from her illness Mioka still only is a young girl with various other problems and she can always count on her mother played by Maya Miki (46) for support.
The story begins with Taichi living an ordinary student life. He freely lives his life, does things at his own pace and has a very wild behavior. One day he happens to run into Mioka and immediately gets charmed by her strong power to live. She tells him about her incurable disease and that there is no treatment or medicine that could help her. Mioka lives every day as if it would be her last one, but soon her illness advances to a stage that doesn't make it possible for her to live like that anymore. This doesn't stop Taichi from loving her wholeheartedly and he decides to stay with her until the very end.
^ Also posted in he Upcoming Dramas thread, I believe.
Yeah, but I felt it should be posted in her thread. I've been wanting to see her in a lead role, but it's going to be a melodrama, not really my genre.

Amusing gMiokah press conference with Yoshitaka Yuriko
Today was the press conference for NTV's new drama "Mioka" starring Yoshitaka Yuriko (21) held at the Seikei University and Yoshitaka sure was able to surprise the reporters with her answers.
"Mioka" is based on a novel by Ishida Ira and was filmed at the same school Ishida attended during his student days. The story is all about the importance of love and life. It focuses on the female college student Mioka (Yoshitaka) who has an incurable disease and is aware that she won't be able to live a long life. For that reason she doesn't hold back and tries to live every day to the fullest. The viewers will be able experience all that energy and the deep messages during Mioka's interactions with the person she falls in love with, Taichi played by Hayashi Kento (19), Taichi's actual girlfriend Mari played by Mizusawa Elena (18), her family and the doctors.
Since the drama starts with Mioka falling in love with the boyfriend of one of her classmates, the reporters asked Yoshitaka to give them her opinion about that matter. "I know that answering that question could affect my image, cbut if there is an absolutely undeniable attraction between the two, I say go for it!" Now that she already answered without caring about her image, the reporters continued and asked her whether she ever had a similar experience, but she immediately blocked the questioned and responded, "What are you asking me!!??"
Yoshitaka continued to stick to Mioka's character during the rest of the press conference. Mioka is a girl like a storm with a lot of freedom and the reporters asked who has the most "freedom" among the cast and everyone immediately pointed at Yoshitaka. She sighed for a moment, but then she countered, "Yeah, because I'm totally at the advantage for having a drolly father at home and quite a detestable doctor at the hospital!!" Terawaki Yasufumi (48) who plays her father and Tanihara Shosuke (37) who plays her doctor didn't expect that at all and were really overwhelmed with such a response.
Terawaki continued to go a bit more into the detail of the freedom Yoshitaka or rather Mioka seems to have at the set. "She starts to tickle me, touches my nipples and says: 'You are more sensitive than a girl!' c She truly is one mischievous child. I'll try hard not to lose against her when it comes to pranks!" He said and followed down the path of not caring about his image.
Other actors that also attended the event but weren't mentioned in the article are Katsudzi Ryo (23), Yuuki Jutta (25), Nakamura Shizuka (21) and Maya Miki (46).
The series also marks Yoshitaka's first full-blown starring role in a drama. Fukuyama Masaharu will be responsible for the theme song called "Hotaru". Start for the drama will be on July 10th at 9pm.
Yesterday actress Yoshitaka Yuriko (21) had the honor to throw the opening batch at the "Suntory The Dream Premium Malts Dream Match 2010" baseball all-star game in the Tokyo Dome.
"What an amazing atmosphere. I've never seen so many people at one place," Yoshitaka described the scenery inside the dome she saw from the mound. Baseball commentators and former professional players Egawa Suguru (55) and Bando Eiji (70) served as the batters for her two pitches. She did great job by throwing each of her balls without a bounce which was positively rewarded by the applauding spectators. "I was very tense having to through under the eyes of so many people, but somehow it turned into a really warm atmosphere. I could feel an incredible support and energy coming from the souls of everyone," she said after the pitches
After arriving at the stadium, the left-handed Yoshitaka had the chance to practice pitching for 15 minutes together with former Giants pitcher Miyamoto Kazutomo (46) who also is left-handed. The practice paid off as she showed a wonderful swing and powerful throw that reached the catcher's mitt without a bounce. "I won't ever get a chance like this again, so I definitely wanted it to reach the batter's box one way or another," she said.
While the spectators were amazed by her nice pitching and gave her a round of applause, Yoshitaka herself was a bit disappointed that the throws, while having the perfect length, were a bit off the mark. In the end she still was able to smile, "Thank you very much for such a precious experience."

Sat, August 14, 2010 (10:31pm EDT)
Yuriko Yoshitaka's next lead movie role will be in director Koji Maeda's "Konzen Tokkyuu," scheduled for release next spring. The film is a comedy about a young woman with multiple boyfriends, trying to find the right one to marry.
Yoshitaka last starred on the big screen in Yukio Ninagawa's "Snakes and Earrings" two years ago. That role, which included nude scenes, earned her multiple awards and helped establish her as a promising young actress.
"Konzen Tokkyuu" started out as an original drama for mobile service LISMO. Last September, Yoshitaka starred in four episodes, portraying the main character Chie at the age of 17. Next January, another short series will have her playing Chie at the age of 21. Then, in the movie version, Yoshitaka will play the same character at the age of 24.
In the movie, Chie is dating five different men. When she begins thinking about marriage and evaluating her relationships, she narrows the list down in search of the right man. The five boyfriends, each with different personalities, will be played by Ryo Kase, SAKEROCK's trombone player Kenta Hamano, Takaaki Enoki, Munetaka Aoki, and Takuya Yoshimura.
