[/b]Tomoya Nagase stars in new Kudokan drama[/b]
TOKIO's Tomoya Nagase (31) is once again teaming up with screenwriter Kankuro Kudo (39) for a new drama series this summer. This will be their third one together, after "Ikebukuro West Gate Park" (2000) and "Tiger & Dragon" (2005).
Titled "Unubore Deka" ("Conceited Detective"), the show is an original comedy about an unusual detective (Nagase) who has a habit of falling in love with every female suspect, and his conceit leads him to believe that they are also in love with him. When he finds evidence of their crimes, he confronts them with an arrest warrant and a marriage proposal at the same time, giving them a choice between the two. Although his actual name will apparently not be mentioned during the show, he is known to everyone as "Unubore" for his conceit.
TBS says that they are lining up big-name actresses to play the guest role of the suspect for each episode. The network also hinted that there's even a case where the guest will be a male actor.
The regular supporting cast features Toma Ikuta (25) as an actor who is Unubore's friend, Mika Nakashima (27) as Unubore's ex-girlfriend, and Toshiyuki Nishida (62) as Unubore's father. The detective frequents a bar where he and a group of acquaintances are known as the "Unubore 5," consisting of Nagase, Ikuta, Jun Kaname (29), Ken Yahagi (38), and Mitsugoro Bando (54).
"Unubore Deka" will air on Friday nights at 10:00pm, starting in July.

Tomoya Nagase to star in movie version of "Soratobu Taiya"
TOKIO's Nagase Tomoya will be starring in the movie version of "Soratobu Taiya" (The tyre which flew into the sky) based on the same-titled novel by Ikeido Jun published in 2006. This will be the first movie adaptation of Ikeido's works and it will be shown in cinemas next year. The novel was made into a drama by WOWOW in 2009 starring Nakamura Tooru. The production crew had approached Ikeido three years ago about making a movie from his works thus he suggested this novel to the crew.
Nagase will be playing the lead character Akamatsu Tokurou who is the president of a transportation company. One day, an accident involving his company's truck happens where a tyre comes loose and causes a housewife's death. This results in a lack of trust and wave of criticism directed at his company for alleged maintenance faults. However, when Akamatsu investigates the truck's structure as he suspects a problem, he finds out that the truck's manufacturer Hope Jidosha is hiding a critical recall issue. In order to protect his company, employees, family and seek justice for himself, he takes on Hope Jidosha which tries to conceal the truth.
Nagase commented that he is very honoured to be able to play Akamatsu who is about the same age as him so he can identify with the feelings which the latter has and his refusal to give up in his bid to uphold justice. As such, he will try his best to act in this movie as what he always does. Filming is expected to begin in the middle of this month and wrap up by April. The rest of the cast lineup will be announced at a later date.

Tomoya Nagase to star in TBS 2017 Summer drama
Nagase Tomoya will be starring in the upcoming TBS Summer 2017 drama "Gomen, Aishiteru" (Sorry, I love you) beginning its run from July and is a remake of the same-titled 2004 South Korean drama from KBS starring So Ji-sub which achieved a high rating of 29.2%. This will be Nagase's first leading role in a TBS Sundays drama.
Nagase plays the lead character Okazaki Ritsu who was abandoned by his mother Reiko (Ootake Shinobu) when he was a child. One day, when Ritsu gets embroiled into an incident that causes him to suffer a life-threatening injury, he decides to meet Reiko for the last time and do something for her out of filial piety because he doesn't know when his life will end. However, when he sees how much she loves her son Satoru (Sakaguchi Kentaro) who is a idol pianist and the happy and rich life she has compared to him who is wallowing in the low rungs of society, Ritsu vows to take revenge on her. At the same time, he falls for a woman Mita Rinka (Yoshioka Riho) who helps him by chance but he is sad to find out that she is in love with his half-brother who is Rinka's childhood friend.
Nagase said that it has been a long time since he acted in a love story like this from the time he appeared in the TBS drama "Love to Eros" when he was 19 years old and his last love story drama was the 1999 FujiTV drama "Suna no ue no koibitotachi". Nagase admitted that he always had this belittling attitude towards love stories so this was the reason why it took him that long to attempt another drama in this genre. Now that he's already in his late 30s, he feels that it will be interesting to see how things become if he acts in a love story again since his attitude towards love has changed a lot from the time he was in his 20s.
Yoshioka who is playing the heroine in a drama series for the first time, commented that she feels nervous and a sense of responsibility about taking on such a significant role. As for Sakaguchi who is appearing in this timeslot for the first time, he described his character Satoru as someone who may seem perfect on the surface but has a tinge of sadness and loneliness in his character. In order to play a pianist convincingly, he has already begun piano lessons before the filming begins.
Ootake who last worked with Nagase in the 1997 drama "Dear Woman SP", expressed her excitement at being able to to play his mother this time and is eagerly anticipating the start of the filming. She also revealed that she had seen the original drama before and was so besotted with it so she is even more thrilled to act in this drama.
