Matsuyama Kenichi passes the Taiga drama baton to Ayase Haruka

On December 20th, a �gbaton touch�h ceremony between the current NHK Taiga drama star and upcoming Taiga drama star, was held at NHK Broadcasting Center. Matsuyama Kenichi who is starring in ongoing Taiga drama �gTaira no Kiyomori�g, and Ayase Haruka who will star in next Taiga drama �gYae no Sakura�h attended the ceremony.

At the �gpassing the baton�h ceremony, the stars usually exchange presents, so Matsuyama gave Kobe beef while Ayase gave �gOkiagari-Koboshi�h, a traditional doll from Aizu region of Fukushima prefecture. The �gOkiagari-Koboshi�h dolls were painted by Ayase herself, and she revealed, �gI painted them yesterday, and it took a while until 3 o�fclock in the morning, but I forgot to paint their hair.�h Matsuyama answered happily, but repressing his laughter, �gBut, it is only one in the world.�h

Matsuyama commented regarding the filming which took a year and 2 months, �gAt first, I was so nervous to be the lead actor of the Taiga drama that has a long history. I was too nervous, so it caused me to restrict the range of my acting. It took me a while to get out of there.�h Then Ayase who just begin filming in September, agreed him with, �gYes. You get stiff when you are nervous. I was just wising that I could relax more, and enjoy the filming.�h

As announced previously, the upcoming Taiga drama, �gYae no Sakura�h will depict the life of Niijima Yae, the wife of Niijima Jo who is the founder of Doshisha University, who strongly lived through that turbulent period. The script was written by Yamamoto Mutsumi, who was also in charge of the script for NHK�fs morning drama �gGegege no Nyobo.�h

�gYae no Sakura�h will begin airing starting on January 6th after �gTaira no Kiyomori�h that will air its final episode on December 23rd.

Haruka Ayase to star in movie "Kodaike no Koibito"

Ayase Haruka will be starring in "Kodaike no Hitobito" (The people in the Kodai family), the real-life movie adaptation of the same-titled manga by Morimoto Kozueko serialised in "Gekkan YOU" at present. The movie which will be shown in cinemas next June, features Ayase as an introvert and ordinary OL named Hirano Kie who is poor with words and has a wild imagination that causes her to fantasize a bit too much. She is dating a successful and good-looking elite named Kodai Mitsumasa played by Saito Takumi who has telepathy powers and is able to see Kie's wild thoughts without her saying them explicitly. Unknown to Kie, almost everyone in Mitsumasa's family has the same power including his younger sister Shigeko played by Mizuhara Kiko, his younger brother Kazumasa played by Mamiya Shotaro and the siblings mother Yuko played by Daichi Mao who is so frank that she doesn't mince her words about thinking that Kie is not suitable for her son. The only family member who did not inherit this power and is poor at observing other people's emotions i.e. the father Shigemasa Junior (more commonly known as Masao) will be played by Ichimura Masachika.

Ayase commented that the biggest similarity between her and Kie is that they both have such a vivid imagination and always have a lot of wild thoughts in their month. As such, she hopes to be able to convey the uniqueness of this comedic love story between a imaginative woman and a man with special powers. On the other hand, Saito said that Mitsumasa is totally different from him and he is such a smart character and excels in many ways but he hopes to show the good and bad sides of a seemingly perfect man through his performance.

The director will be Hijikata Masato who was responsible for works such as "Yo ni mo kimyo na monogatari", "Shomuni", "Nazotoki wa dinner no ato de" and "Ghost Writer" when he was with FujitV while the scriptwriter will be Kaneko Arisa who had written "Nurse no Oshigoto", the movies "Densha Otoko", "Kage hinata ni saku" and "Helter Skelter". The manga's author Morimoto was very pleased to have Ayase and Saito play the leads in the adaptation movie and expressed her wish to see this movie soon.

Aww man, not again. After Hotaru and Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu, surely she should start picking roles other than "ordinary OL who imagines a lot"??? Her Hanae in Kaisha left a very bad taste in my mouth and I couldn't really look at her after that for a bit.

Haruka Ayase to star in new movie "Honnouji Hotel"

Ayase Haruka, Tsutsumi Shinichi and Hamada Gaku will be starring in the new movie "Honnouji Hotel" directed by Suzuki Masayuki which will be shown next year. The actors and Suzuki last worked together in the 2011 movie "Princess Toyotomi" which achieved 1.62 billion yen in box office takings. In this film which is an original story, it will depict what happened one day before the Honnouji Incident which is said to be the largest mystery in Japanese history. It will begin from present-day Kyoto where Mayuko (Ayase) is troubled over marriage and incidentally goes to the Honnouji Hotel to stay where she meets Oda Nobunaga (Tsutsumi) and his guard Mori Ranmaru (Hamada) from the Warring Era.

Ayase commented that as she had worked with Tsutsumi and director Suzuki many times, she is eagerly awaiting the filming taking place this summer and will work hard with the cast and crew to deliver an entertaining and funny film to the viewers. As for Tsutsumi, he praised Ayase for being a wonderful actress and with the addition of good actors like Hamada and Kazama Morio, he is confident that the movie will turn out well. Last but not least, Hamada commented that he is honoured to be playing Ranmaru who was said to be a very good-looking man and thinks that people might be disappointed at first to hear that he is playing this character but he will do his best to make his character come alive and impress the viewers.

Other members in the cast include Kazama who plays the hotel's manager and Hirayama Hiroyuki who plays Mayuko's boyfriend. Filming is going to start in the beginning of July, expected to wrap up by late August and will be done entirely in Kyoto.

Haruka Ayase to star with Kentaro Sakaguchi in new movie "Konya, Romance Gekijou de"

Ayase Haruka and Sakaguchi Kentaro will be joint leads in the new movie "Konya, Romance Gekijou de" (Tonight at the romance theatre) which is written by novelist and scriptwriter will be directed by Uyama Keisuke and directed by Takeuchi Hideki. Although Ayase and Sakaguchi had appeared in the movies "Umimachi diary" and "Kodaike no Hitobito" together before, they had no scenes together so this is their first official collaboration. The script was written with the two of them in mind before the offer was made to them. Filming began at the end of April and will wrap up by early June. The movie is scheduled to be shown in cinemas next year.

The fantasy love story features Sakaguchi as a young man named Kenji who dreams of becoming a movie director and Ayase as Miyuki, a "princess" who appears in monochrome movies and is the woman of Kenji's dreams. Although the two has no likelihood of meeting, Miyuki suddenly comes out from her monochrome world into the colourful current era and appears in front of Kenji which leads to them falling in love with each other. In the movie, Ayase who will be sporting an image similar to Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday", will be wearing at least 25 different outfits.

Haruka Ayase to star in NTV 2017 Fall drama

Ayase Haruka will be starring in the new NTV Autumn 2017 drama "Okusama wa, toriatsukai chuui" (Handle this Mrs. with care) which will begin its run from October in the Wednesday 10pm timeslot. The drama is an original story written by Kaneshiro Kazuki who specializes in cutting edge suspense and action stories so Ayase's character will be a blend of cheerfulness and strength and coolness which is hardly seen in Japanese dramas.

Ayase plays the lead character Isayama Nami who got married to a man on the spur of the moment after falling in love with him at first sight during a go-kon. Although she is a housewife who is living the good life in a quiet upscale neighborhood which is a huge contrast to when she was single, she is actually poor at cooking and cleaning the house and her biggest complaint is that she cannot stand the mundane life of an ordinary housewife. Nami also hates beating around the bush and has a strong sense of justice which makes her extremely frightening when she is angered. She sets out to help the housewives living in the same neighborhood who may look happy on the surface but have various issues hidden within.

With regard to playing a housewife for the first time, Ayase said there will be some parts which will make viewers laugh but the action scenes will be very exciting to watch so she hopes everyone will enjoy watching this every week. Meanwhile, Kaneshiro said that this is the first time that he has a woman as the lead character in his drama so it will be a big challenge to him.

To prepare for the action scenes, Ayase had been undergoing training in silat since June of this year. Instead of relying on physical strength to overcome her opponents, Ayase will be using daily objects like cooking utensils, ballpoint pens and pencils as her weapons.

Haruka Ayase to star in TBS 2021 Winter drama

Haruka Ayase will star in the TBS Winter 2021 drama "Tengoku to Jigoku: Pyschona 2 nin".

Ayase plays detective Ayako Mochizuki. She is a dedicated detective but too much set in her ways. She investigates a murder case and suspects Haruko Hidaka, played by Issei Takahashi as the perpetrator. Hidaka runs a chemical research company.

The drama airs beginning in January 2021.

Haruka Ayase hospitalized with Covid

On August 31st, HoriPro announced that actress Haruka Ayase has tested positive for COVID-19, and was hospitalized for symptoms of pneumonia.

According to HoriPro, she had a mild fever on the evening of the 20th so she took the antigen test, which came back negative. To be sure, she conducted the PCR test at a local clinic the following day, which was also negative. Although her symptoms had subsided, her fever continued so she took another antigen test but it was negative again. Then on the 26th, she did the antigen test once more and was finally confirmed positive for coronavirus.

The actress had been recuperating at home, but was hospitalized after having pneumonia symptoms. She is currently recovering.

Let's hope she gets better soon.

Haruka Ayase to star in Fuji TV Spring 2022 drama

Haruka Ayase will star in the Fuji TV 2022 Spring drama "Motokare no Yuigon".

Haruka plays Reiko Kenmochi a successful lawyer with a big law firm. When bonuses are cut, she decides to leave her job. She emails people she knows including her ex, Eiji Morikawa. Then she gets an email from someone named Shinoda telling her Morikawa has died. His will states that his entire inheritance will be given to the person that killed him. Reiko comes up with a plan to split Eiji's inheritance with Shinoda.

The drama airs beginning in April, 2022.
