I think it would be hard to find a guy who doesnt like GTO
Dun really like those i mentioned because they all follow a certain melodramatic formula like...
Guy meets girl
fall in love
various misunderstandings etc etc
patch up etc etc
guy meets second girl/girl meets second guy
second girl always the type trying to snatch the guy away/second guy always the type to try and snatch the girl away.
create various misunderstandings between guy and girl, etc etc
guy always end up still liking the first girl the most/vice versa...
to me thats kinda boooring
thats why i like dramas with a twist or with some humour more...
somehing like overtime, long vacation that kind of stuff. love story yes, but with enough humour and some little twists to entertain...
the way the couples express their love in LV and Overtime are also quite different... I mean they don't have to say out loud that they love each other/care for each other, but they kinda just know it in their hearts...

SOS is reali a disappointment...the story is reali slow and i fell asleep a few times watchin it.....And it took me quite a long and torturing time to finnish it
And Love complex is also a very big disappointment to me...after watching the whole drama....i still dont quite get what is was talking about..hehe..mayb i was too stupid to understand
SOS!!
thought it has already been said..
its so horrible -__-;
i hate kyoko fukada.. and that drama just reinforced that :x
shes so annoyin >__<;;
how can you hate Kyoko Fukada?! She's my favorite!!!
All you guys got my hopes down for SOS!!!
I just traded sooo much crap to get it! >.< now i know i traded good quality anime for a crap Drama
so far, nothing i've seen was like that...out of SS, GTO, and To Heart... ^^;

oh man, just reading the posts made me glad i didn't get SOS...
had actually wanted to partly cos' my little brother is a fan of Kyoko Fukada... but he told me that his frens said that the show is quite awful, so i scrapped the idea... thank goodness!!!
so far most of the shows that i've watched were quite alright 'cept for Nisennen no koi... watched when it was aired on tv... thank goodness!!!
acting was fine, with great-looking cast and definitely great song by DAI but the story was rather disappointing to me... din like it at all....

if you really like fukada kyoko that much than you will probably enjoy it. I think she's the one of the worst actresses I've ever seen, consistently putting in terrible performances where her role is to be cute but she ends up being annoying.
but if you want to try SOS...
I agree with the earlier comments about melodrammatic dramas being formulaic. But I think the formula isn't the important thing, it's how the actors work together that makes the difference.

Nice grumpy topic~! Prattle time!!!
i think Asunaro White Book of Love was utterly annoying because of the lead actress... She is just so argh!!! I felt like wringing her neck & turning the tv off but hey, I bought the thing~! The 2 guys who were devoted to her... One was too darn nice & the other was just clueless about gals. The gay & the gal who got knocked up by the gay kept me going... Heh...
Another one would be Fighting Girl... It's all about sewing, selling & quarrelling. Quite like when we were in Elementary School & u say... "I shan't be your friend anymore! " then "aWWW... My best friend!!!". Grrr.... i finished it because of Kyoko Fukada but at the ending I almost pulled my hair out by them roots! The whole thing was back to square one...

There is one show "Love Complex". Initially i brought it thinking that it should be nice as starring by Sorimachi Takashi and Karasawa Toshiaki <--you know both are so popular and handsome. After watching the 2 disk, i was really disappointed. Maybe my jap is bad, i do't even understand the plot. It really bored me out. The VCDs was left on my shelf eversince.
i guess girls like melodramatic stuff more than guys?
I'm a girl, but I hate melodrama too.
The Damned List
Beautiful Life (made it to the end only because friend forced me to)
Virgin Road (ditto)
Love Generation (made it to the end only because I like Matsu Takako)
Brand (never made it past Ep. 1)
Majo no Jouken (never made it past Ep. 3)
Tokyo Love Story (despite being the IT drama, I hated the little that I saw of it)
To Heart (Fukada Kyoko was just plain annoying in the drama as she is in every other drama)
Mukodono (never made it past Ep. 1)
Love 2000 (boring. boring. boring. boring)
Meguriai (boring. boring. boring. boring)
Rennai kekkon no housoku (Takashi is eye candy but that still doesn't mean the drama wasn't boring. didn't make it to the end)
Koi no kamisama (see above)
Big Wing (am I the only one who wanted to slap Uchida Yuki?)
I also tend to boycott anything with Wakui Emi, Fukada Kyoko and Tokiwa Takako.

hehe.... even more extreme than me sia... haha. I havent watched tokyo love story, koi no kamisama, meguriai, rennai kekkon no housoko, love 2000. I like mukodono(great plot and comedy) and virgin road(I like wakui's father's interaction with takashi, and "can you celebrate"). But i agree with you about the rest though [/quote]
List - in no particular order
Wedding Planner
Love Revolution
Summer Snow
Long Vacation
GTO
Gakkou no Sensei
Itazurana Kiss
Antique
Hero
Tengoku ni ichiban chikai otoko 2
Dekichatta Kekkon
Perfect Love
Kindaichi shonen no jikenbo 1 & 2 (not the 3rd one because Matsumoto Jun and the girl who played Miyuki just didn't seem to have the chemistry that Doumoto Tsuyoshi and Tomosaka Rie had. Also, Matsumoto seems to lack Doumoto's charisma in this series)
As usual, list is not exhaustive.
I tend to prefer lively doramas as opposed to cry cry cry ones, which is why I dislike Korean dramas because someone always ends up either with terminal illness or gets knocked down by a truck.
I'm currently watching Psycho Doctor. So far so good.

Meguri Ai. It started out really promissing. Then it got weirder and weirder. The ending was totally weak. It was like "huh? that was it?" The music on the show was good though.

Thanks for telling me. I was slowly watching this one and it's begun to lose some steam (i'm on the 7th ep), but now I'll watch something else before I bother to finish with it.

Herefs another one – Mukashi No Otoko. Any show with Fujiwara Norika always starts out promising, especially when the previews show her in a love scene. But the story got very strange, especially Abefs characterfs mother.
