Enka no Joou: Yuki Amani is one of my favorite actresses--I think that she, Ryoko Shinohara, and Miho Kanno are the three best leading actresses currently working in dorama. So when I read she was to star in this dorama, along with Riko Narumi who was so good as Ruri in Ruri no Shima, it caught my attention. And when I read Amami was to play an enka singer, I really was hooked since I like listening to enka. But what a disastrous mess this series turned out to be.
I dunno, I liked Enka no Joou granted the whole fantasy sequence thing was kind of weird but the thing is, this is the third drama that has paired Yuki and Mayuko Fukuda. She played Yuki as a child in this, she was Yuki's daughter in Rastu Presento and she was one of the kids in the class in Jyoou no Kyoushitsu I'm beginning to think they're related!
Musashi: As someone who likes Taiga (although far less so with recent editions), I was looking forward to watching this series about Japan's greatest swordsman. NHK brought together an incredible all-star cast, even for Taiga standards. There were actors who were staples in jidaigeki movies from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. There were actors who were stars of previous Taiga dramas. There was some of the best young/middle-aged/older talent in dorama. And in the title role, a real honest-to-goodness actor, a Kabuki star, was cast. NHK also hired Ennio Morricone to do the musical score. Yet with all this talent, the end result was a plodding, bloated, dull series. (Sorry Beem)
I'd have to agree in some ways... First and foremost was that it was too long: they milked some parts of the story bone dry and others (like Otsu's death) they didn't give any more than a mere mention... And a number of the action sequences were poorly choreographed.
Yet I enjoyed the drama for the most part mainly because of the legend that is Miyamoto Musashi...
this list's equal to my watched but unfinished list
any show that could make me hanging on to the last episode (with or without the ffwd button) could be categorized as at least decent..
- Enka no Jou. stopped at ep.1 .. Didn't arouse any interest.
- Hanakimi : the pattern's seen after 3rd or 4th episode. A quiz or challenge from the school, and ikuta toma's character falling for mizuki. (watched all last 4 episode with 4x ffwd)
- Musashi : Stopped after the plotline stops following eiji yoshikawa's .
- Yoshitsune : no need to explain
- Liar Game : Something whether about the cinematography, the set, or the lighting bugs me.
- Dream again : The theme's been used way too many times. Stopped at ep. 1. Shida Mirai herself couldn't help the show
- Gokusen 2 : Stop at first 30 minute. This is how my anti-JE disease starts
Hanazakarino Kimitachihe
Maybe I'm a man but damn,, that thing has way too much fanservice
I tried to watch it but after the first 12 mins. I forgot what happened
I think the fanservice me in the head and I passed out
but for whatever reason I dont want to try to watch it again,,
Anna-san no Omame
The plot looked good on paper but after watching it it was
like over and over again all series,, I think
is more comfortable but I finished the series and
it actually gets better the 2nd time you watch it
Gokusen 2
I actually liked gokusen 1 but I didnt expect gokusen 2 to have the same
plot, just different fangirl bait,
Puzzle (2008)
Not very charming,, if it was charming then if would have been atleast decent, and the puzzles are way too complicated, I was expecting it to be like TRICK but no it feels inferior and the characters are forgetable
Shibatora
The synopsis was interesting,, but what it didnt say was this is a supernatural drama, and the super natural part just makes me wanna because its so annoying/boring, if they were gonna make a supernatural drama make the supernatural part interesting atleast like sh15uya
That main character can see groapy (for the lack of a better term) hands around people that are about to die,, kinda corny and they revealed it way too soon,, you can kinda predict the flow of the show from the first 15 mins.

It's weird that I totally forgot about that part... _________________
densha otoko = because of all the awards and praise. but it was boring and irritating.
sekai no chuushin = awards and praise but it was SOO BORING. i gave up after 1 ep?
mei-sama no shitsuji = it won best drama award and i loved hanazakari kimitachi e but this was pure s***
proposal daisakusen - it won awards and stuff but man the story is bad. it's so boring.
hotaru no hikari = it sounded interesting at first but it's so mediocre and boring./
gokusen = same thing over and over. and i hate nakama yukie... after i saw this rdama.
zettai kareshi= it was intersting at first but after 5 eps you realize the pattern in the eps and how it's going to end and then it becomes unwatchable.... relaly boring.
maou - so much melodrama & the story-line wasn't much... so disappointing.
bloody monday - the melodrama killed me. i really don't like miura + his bawling scenes.
papa to musume no nanokakan. = it was good at first but it got so terrible, especially the last ep was like .... didn't really watch... just fast-fowarded.
kekkon dekinai otok - i heard it's really funny but god it was so boring. it's plot less? as much as i like abe hiroshi, the other cast people are so irritating. i hate michiru.

Gotta agree with you on Proposal Daisakusen, for such a good cast can't believe how boring, I mean really boring it was, for some reason a fan favorite.
The other 2 though are among my faves, nothing wrong with melodrama...thought the rest of the cast besides Abe were top notch, Yui was just so superb in it. _________________

I had a similar reaction when I tried watching it a few years back. But then I decided to give it another go and it won me over. It's by no means "plotless". I think KDO really is a funny and well-written drama... the only catch is that it probably speaks more to people of a certain age or temperament.
Have to agree with you though on Densha Otoko and Sekai Chu. I mean, they have artistic merit and such but I wasn't as moved or hooked on it as I thought I would be. Same with Hotaru no Hikari, I liked it when I first saw it but then on second viewing, it turned out to be very pedestrian. _________________

It's definitely a more adult, sophisticated comedy-drama compared to the more in-your-face stuff that's geared to the younger crowd.

Count me as one who's much more into the adult, sophisticated comedy-dramas than the in your face ones which are more of an idol of the month variety, the adult ones with the likes of Abe are the ones which we'll still be viewing 10 years from now. _________________
I agree with the many people that posted last friends. While i do love it, there were just so many unanswered questions in the end, especially in terms of Ryo and Eita's characters. All the acting was great in it, except for the lead girl.
Honey and Clover was another show i had expectations from , since the anime is my favorite. First episode seemed enjoyable, but it got too over the top and until episode 8 it felt like a trainwreck.
Konkatsu - the first episode seemed cute and funny and i thought the series was gonna be good.. but the lack of chemistry between any of the chracters kind of killed it. (and sato ryuta)
smile - first episode seemed interesting, but ive stalled so many times watching this, i dont know when i'll get to finish. it's just too draggy and slow.
i also kind of expected stand up and densha otoko to be good since they're rated high and people have said many positive things about them, but both were really boring to me _________________

Well it is so interesting to see this. Some of my very favorites are among others most disappointing dramas and certainly some of my most disappointing are among others faves too. Really goes to prove it's best to watch and make up your own mind,
For me...
Kimi wa Petto - Like the cast, the concept was not bad but it was just dull and I could not get into it at all.
Strawberry on the Shortcake - I had heard good things but apart from Uchiyama Rina this pretty much bored me to death.
Though I still enjoyed "Hana Yori Dango" I would say it was a little disappointing because of all the praise and hype. I felt pretty let down.
I didn't write about my most recent disappointment.
MOTHER. I was realy expecting some good drama b.c. of the plot, the person who wrote the script (also wrote watashitachi no kyoukasho) , the praise.
I was reading 2ch or ch-review.net and people said out of that season only mother is good or they put it UP there with JIN. And let me just say JUST NO.
In brief, it's too boring, slow-paced and melodramatic for me.
The first episode was really silent... lol. they just did not talk much. It was just really boring but the last part was of course all moving but melodramaticc-ish. Because the preson who wroet this wrote WTNK I thought it's gonna start slow but it's gonna get amazing like WTNK. But nooo.. this drama has problems. The lead actress isn't that good, she makes that same face during "those" scenes over and over and she just does the whisper-talking thing. It gets more melodramatic as it goes on. There were a couple scenes that interseted me but it's not enough. I guess ep 8 is really important but it's disappointing. This drama made me want to AVOID All dramas with chidlren in it... not because the child actress is bad... but chidl = boring scenes sometimes (can't explain).
I watched 1-5, fastforwad-watch ep 6, skipped to the last ep, then skimmeed the other eps and found out ep 8 has the stuff i wanted to know yet it didn't relaly tell me much.
