This being August, there's been a lot of stuff about the end of World War II on NHK. They were showing about the battle of Okinawa and there's the famous picture of the little girl holding a white flag. Turns out she wrote a book about her experiences:https://www.amazon.com/Girl-White-Flag-Tomiko-Higa/dp/1568365314
It was an interesting read. Told from the point of view of a 7 year old which she was at the time. Amazingly enough, she was reunited with the photographer that took the picture in the late 1980's.
Just finished Journey Under the Midnight Sun by Higashino Keigo. Not quite a page turner given the somewhat unusual method of storytelling, but absorbing nevertheless and leaves one with plenty of food for thought. _________________
It's amazing she didn't go batshit crazy. Not so much from the Imperial Family, they seem pretty normal, or as normal as you can be living in that environment. The real problems came from the staff and people that work there with their own ideas of how the Imperial Family should live and what they should do.
