Speaking of the "Oshin" movie, somebody has put the first 130 episodes on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL02443BB87E1C2EEF

It looks like epi 130 was just added yesterday, so hopefully they'll eventually get all of them up. Fingers crossed

Just a heads up for those of you not familiar with "Oshin", it runs close to 300 episodes so they're about halfway.

Edit: Looks like they deleted them all!! Beaten

Found this little bit about "Oshin" which I thought was interesting:

An Iranian woman was once asked by a radio reporter, "Who is your symbol of Islamic womanhood?" "Oshin", she answered. It was a reply that so shocked Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini that he ordered the arrest of four people from the TV station that broadcast the program.

Way to go Oshin, you even scared the Ayatollah!! Thumbsup

They've been showing "Oshin" on Sunday mornings here for I think over a year now. Up to episode 183 where Fuji is about to pass away. I was curious so I looked it up and Yuko Tanaka as Oshin and Pinko Izumi as Fuji are playing daughter and mother but in real life they're only 8 years apart. I thought there had to be at least a 20 year gap between the two.

Tanaka as young Oshin is supposed to be in her late 20's and in reality she was 26 or 27. I have no idea how old Fuji was supposed to be, probably in her 60's or 70's, but Izumi was only about 35. Yes, there is some good makeup work there, but there's also some pretty good acting going on as well. Applaud

I was enjoying Oshin, but the fan subber quit about 80% of the way through.

Wanted to know how it ended, so I went to Wikipedia to check the plot summary. There's thousands of words of plot summary there, but the final 100 episodes only gets a single short sentence!

Showing 'Oshin' locally and they've reached the point where I had my one complaint.

At episode 268 the storyline jumps 10 years from 1957 to 1967 and for some reason with the exception of Nobuko Otowa as Oshin they replaced all the other actors. Hitoshi, Tei, Nozomi, Hatsuko, etc. everybody was played by a different actor in episode 268 then they were in episode 267. It wasn't like they were moving ahead 40 years it was only 10 years so I've never understood why they felt the need to replace everybody.

The thing is, when this was originally aired in Japan, episode 267 was on Wednesday and episode 268 on Thursday. I'll bet there was a lot of this Head Scratch going on. It took me most of episode 268 to figure out who was who all over again.

I am very rusty with posting and other normal items on computer. have been fighting medical things for fifteen months. However it gave me time to watch the OSHIN drama. I really got involved in that story. What an amazing woman Oshin became. I really loved the early parts and those were the best episodes for me. I wondered if I would have her forbearance and patience with her family in the later episodes.

Good to be back.

Awhile back max criden asked me about asadoras and for some reason I forgot to mention "Oshin". Which is a bit like listing the best westerns of all time leaving off 'High Noon". Bonk

Probably the best asadora ever, but bear in mind it runs 297 episodes almost twice as long as most.
