Went over to Kinokuniya and picked up my calendar for next year. Not suprisingly, this was the last one they had. Shouldn't have too much trouble keeping warm this winter.

Hitomi Kuroki stars as housewife rocker in "Utahime"
Wed, September 29, 2010
Actress Hitomi Kuroki is set to star in a new movie by television director Yoshiko Hoshida, titled "Utahime." The film will have her playing a "rocker mama" role, which includes a scene of her and her band performing a rendition of the famous song "Smoke on the Water" by British band Deep Purple.
Kuroki plays the part of Mieko, a housewife who is troubled by her husband's apathy and her daughter's hikikomori lifestyle. She decides to form a band with two other housewives, played by Miki Maya and comedian Shizuyo Yamasaki, plus an oddball divorcee, played by Tae Kimura. The film follows their ups and downs until their performance of "Smoke on the Water" at a school festival.
Kuroki's character is in charge of the guitar and vocals. Starting at the end of July, Kuroki began guitar training under the guidance of a professional musician, and she is said to have heavily practiced the guitar on her own at home. Maya, Yamasaki, and Kimura have also been training for their respective instruments.
"Utahime" is planned for theatrical release in early summer 2011.
I guess they had some post-production problems, it's getting released next month. Still looking forward to it!

Kuroki has turned to directing:
Yo Yoshida and Yoshino Kimura to co-star in Hitomi Kuroki's directorial debut
Yoshida Yo and Kimura Yoshino will be the double leads in Kuroki Hitomi's first movie as a director which is titled "Iya na Onna" (The detestable woman) and due to be shown in cinemas next year.
The movie which is based on the same-titled novel published by Katsura Nozomi in 2010, features Yoshida as a serious lawyer named Ishida Tetsuko who is totally immersed in her work but always has to help her distant relative Kotani Natsuko get out of trouble as the latter is a fraudster. Through each interaction with Natsuko who she deeply dislikes, Tetsuko finds herself changing unwittingly without her being conscious about it. This movie will mark the first collaboration between the three actresses.
Recalling when she was first offered the role, Yoshida said that she was very surprised and flattered because she had never worked with Kuroki before and to take on the leading role in her directorial debut is a great honour. On the other hand, Kimura had worked with Kuroki before in the 1997 movie "Shitsurakuen" but was shocked on hearing about the latter becoming a director. Despite not being fully aware of what the movie was about, both actresses took on the roles almost immediately.

Hitomi Kuroki to star in new movie "Owatta Hito"
Kuroki Hitomi will be starring along with Hiroshi Tachi in the new movie "Owatta Hito" (The Finished Person) which is based on the same-titled novel by scriptwriter Uchidata Makiko and will be directed by Nakata Hideo. The actors last worked together 20 years ago in the 1996 TV Tokyo drama SP "Mueitou".
The comedic movie features Tachi as the lead character Tashiro Sousuke who worked in a major bank and looked like he was on the path to success when he got transferred to a subsidiary and is about to retire without any achievement to his name. However, having been so focused on work over the past few decades, Sousuke desires to continue working or else he won't be able to continue living without a purpose. Without any special skills, he can't find anything in particular to do. Upon seeing this, his wife Chigusa (Kuroki) who works as a hairdresser and his daughter jokingly suggest that Sousuke should find someone to date. Coincidentally, Sousuke indeed finds someone who he is interested but things do not turn out the way he wants and his life starts to take on an uncontrollable twist...
Tachi jokingly commented that he had been acting as a police detective for the last 30 years and his new "workplace" in this movie has nothing to do with guns and riding a Harley Davidson bike. Although the title is rather harsh to describe someone who had retired, he hopes that he will be able to show the comical side of his character's retirement life through his acting in this movie and can't wait for the filming to start. As for Kuroki, she described her character as someone who has no more patience for her husband who lost his past glory acquired from his career but still tries to care for his feelings. She expressed her joy at being able to work with Tachi who gives her a sense of familiarity and security since they had worked together since their 20s so she believes that she will be able to rely on him during the filming.
Part of the filming was done in Iwate Prefecture during April to capture the sakura scenery but the actual filming will begin from 1 July to early August.
