watching Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake which is about aids, and watching Daisuki and Hikari to tomo ni which both are bout people with mental illnesses, mother which is about child abuse and even the issues of single mothers and adoption, and Mama wa Mukashi Papa datta which is about Transgender people, i really like dramas that take on controversial issues and deal with society issues. i feel like when it comes to womens rights, HIV, lgbt rights, and other issues japan seems to be living in the 1960s, I was wondering if there is any dramas out there that tackle these issues or other issues as well?

Hi everyone, recently saw Love Shuffle and really enjoyed the character interactions and how most of the characters weren't two dimensional. Though the story had quite a few stumbling points I would say.
I'm looking for something with cast of characters that work well together and also that they live a life if that makes any sense.
Nothing too depressingly dark or cringe-worthily cheesy.
Thanks

Hi guys, I've been away from jdoramas for most of the past year. I tend to like comedies, with great characters/plot, romance is ok. Hopefully not too cheesy. I've done a bit of looking over the past few seasons, but nothing quite catches my eye. Anything you'd suggest?
So, I've got a like two episodes left of Shokojo Seira with Shida Mirai since I was really impressed by her performance in an episode of boss but this series is very poorly paced and pretty dull and predictable.
I do have a few new series to pick up at hand, but I feel like I want to get a good recommendation for a good series.
I like stuff with colorfull characters like AKB48s Majisuka Gakuen/Crows Zero, Liar Games or Arakawa Under the Bridge. Nothing with police/investigation unless it's something reeaaally special please since shows like that isn't my cup of tea.
Other than that, I'd like good story and not comedy. I mean some comedic moments or similair can be there but I'd prefer if it's at least 60% serious and 40% comedy.
This is my first post here is this great thread
thank you for all your recommendations , I appreciate them all

I think this topic was touched in the dramas with **** above ,
It's about a group of people that were friends during college and the drama picks up about 3 years later to see how they're doing. I thought it was great!

Question regarding Strawberry Night...
I was going to watch this drama but then I noticed there was an SP that aired in 2010 prior to the broadcast of the episodic renzoku that aired this year. Is it essential that one watch the SP first as it aired earlier in time?

^ Triky, from what I've read in some of the other forums, most people suggested to watch the SP first.
Thanks! I figured as much but didn't realize there was an earlier SP and as you very well know the SP's usually come after a drama's broadcast not before.
I need some good drama! Just rewatched Soredemo for the second time, damn what a good drama. Also recently watched Tsumi to Batsu, well scripted and good acting. So now I'm looking for more. My all time fav romance/comedy is Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, so anything similar to that is welcome. In terms of dark/mystery drama, I enjoyed Byakuyakou, Soredemo, and Mother.
So I guess I'm open to all genre, as long as the story is convincing and the casts can act. Also, I would prefer less mainstream dramas (e.g. Himitsu, Tsumi to Batsu, etc..) since they typically have stronger casts. As a side note, I already plan to watch Saigo Kara (I heard many people compare it to Kekkon Dekinai Otoko). Please, no idol dramas though (Nobuta, Kimi wa Pet, Hana Yori Dango, etc...).
