Tabe Mikako returns in gDeka Wankoh drama special
The gDeka Wankoh drama series, starring Tabe Mikako, is getting a special episode at the start of the new year. The story this time will take place in Paris and in Edo-period Japan.
gDeka Wankoh is based on a manga by gGokusenh creator Morimoto Kozueko. Goriki Ayame to star in drama series gTeen Courth
Posted on December 10, 2011 by tokyograph
Up-and-coming actress Goriki Ayame (19) has been given her first sole starring role in a drama series. She will play the lead in NTVfs gTeen Court ~10-dai Saiban~,h scheduled for Tuesday nights (11:58pm) this winter.
The setting for the series is modeled after actual teen courts in the United States, which allow juveniles who have committed minor offenses to have their cases heard by their peers. The teen courts generally hand down sentences of community service, following principles of restorative justice.
In the drama, Goriki plays a 2nd-year high school student named Nyakouji Misato, who serves as a prosecutor in teen court. Although the cases she deals with have already been investigated, she teams up with a boy in her class to re-investigate until her own curiosity has been satisfied. From her perspective as a high school girl, she notices things such as an odd use of emoji in an email, or an unnatural pose in a picture, leading her to discover the real truth behind each incident.
The supporting cast includes Murakawa Eri, Mori Ken, Konno Hiroki (King of Comedy), Owada Kensuke, Azuma Mikihisa, and Maeda Bibari.
The series is planned to take two episodes per case. Filming already started on December 7. The series will premiere on January 10, 2012.

Speaking of Lucky 7:
Tanihara Shosuke to star in gLucky Sevenh spin-off
December 12, 2011
Before the Fuji TV drama series gLucky Sevenh premieres on January 16, the cable channel Fuji TV TWO will broadcast a spin-off drama on January 14, titled gShiritsu Tantei Makabe Ryu.h Although Arashifs Matsumoto Jun is the star of the actual series, the spin-off will star Tanihara Shosuke.
As announced before, gLucky Sevenh is an action/comedy series about a team of private detectives who solve various difficult cases despite their lack of smooth teamwork. In the series, gShiritsu Tantei Makabe Ryuh is a TV detective drama that the characters love to watch. Matsumotofs character, Tokita Shuntaro, has admired Makabe Ryu since he was a child, and even in his actual detective work he imitates Makabefs signature line and pose.
In the world of gLucky Seven,h the gMakabe Ryuh series is described as a ghard-boiled comedyh about a private eye with a trademark yellow hat and trench coat, who solves the worldfs toughest unsolved cases and has even earned the respect of the American intelligence agency CIA.
The spin-off consists of 4 original stories. Fuji TV TWO will broadcast gShiritsu Tantei Makabe Ryuh on January 14 at 12:30pm.

Matsushige Yutaka to star in drama adaptation of food manga gKodoku no Gourmeth
Posted on December 19, 2011 by tokyograph
Actor Matsushige Yutaka (48) will star in a live-action drama adaptation of Kusumi Masayuki and Taniguchi Jirofs gourmet manga gKodoku no Gourmet.h This will be Matsushigefs first time to star in a television series.
gKodoku no Gourmeth was originally serialized in Fusoshafs gGekkan SPA!h between 1994 and 1996. It was resumed in 2008 and has been irregularly serialized since then.
The story follows a man named Inogashira Goro (played by Matsushige), who privately runs an imported dry goods business. In his spare time between work, he visits various shops and tastes their cuisine. One of the highlights of the manga is that the shops that appear in it are all real shops geared towards a general public. The drama will preserve the spirit of the manga, in which the solitary protagonist speaks very little and the focus is on his character as he eats various dishes.
TV Tokyo will broadcast the series late at night (Wednesdays 12:43am-1:13am), starting on January 4.

^ That could be interesting. Yutaka Matsushige (http://www.jdorama.com/artiste.77.htm) usually plays "second thug from the left". I wonder how he'll do as the lead.

Watanabe Mayu to play 38-year-old teacher in her drama series gSaba Doruh
January 3, 2012
Some plot details have finally been released regarding the drama series gSaba Doru,h starring AKB48 member Watanabe Mayu. The series was announced last month but was initially surrounded by secrecy. It turns out that Watanabe will be playing a dual role, one as herself and one as a 38-year-old teacher.
The story revolves around the 38-year-old Usa Shijimi (Watanabe), who is a high school classical literature teacher. Her students are mean to her, but they donft realize that she has another identity. Outside school, she lies about her age to be active as the super popular 17-year-old idol Watanabe Mayu, whom the students adore.
The title is a combination of the phrase gnenrei no saba wo yomuh (to lie about onefs age) and the word gaidoruh (idol).
Watanabe commented on the role, gHow to act as the 38-year-old Shijimi is especially difficult, but I want to give it my best.h She continued, gThe show is a heartful comedy, so I hope I can provide energy to those who watch it.h
Ando Tamae, Sakata Tadashi, Kaminaga Keisuke, and Takahashi Hitomi are among the supporting cast. The planning and original work are being handled by AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi.

Yoshinaga Fumifs gOokuh gets live-action drama, movie sequel
Posted on January 16, 2012 by tokyograph
Yoshinaga Fumifs historical fiction manga gOokuh is getting a television drama adaptation and a second film adaptation, it has been announced. Actor Sakai Masato (38) will star in both, though he will play different characters in each.
gOokuh is set during the Edo period of Japan, in an alternate history where a mysterious disease that affects only males has resulted in a population where women overwhelmingly outnumber men. As a result, woman are the dominant members of society, and due to scarcity, men are valued for their ability to produce offspring. The shoguns are female instead of male, and the gookuh (the inner chambers of the shogunfs castle) consists of a harem of men.
A movie adaptation of the first volume of the manga was released in 2010, starring Arashi member Ninomiya Kazunari as a member of the gookuh and Shibasaki Kou as Tokugawa Yoshimune. The movie earned 2.3 billion yen at the box office.
The television drama, titled gOoku: Arikoto Iemitsu Hen,h will cover volumes 2 through 4 of the manga, which takes place during Tokugawa Iemitsufs reign. Sakai will play the part of Arikoto, a monk brought into the gooku,h while Tabe Mikako (22) will play Iemitsu.
The TV series is scheduled to run from October to December on TBS. After the series ends, the gOoku: Emonnosuke Tsunayoshi Henh movie adaptation will be released in theaters on December 22. It will cover volumes 4 through 6 of the manga. Sakai will play Emonnosuke, an gookuh member who resembles Arikoto, and Kanno Miho (34) will play the shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.
Kaneko Fuminori will direct again, and Kamiyama Yumiko will handle the screenplay. More cast members are expected to be announced in July.

Sakurai Sho, Oshima Yuko to co-star in television drama gBlackboardh
January 24, 2012
Arashifs Sakurai Sho and AKB48fs Oshima Yuko will appear together in a television drama for the first time. In April, TBS plans to air a 3-episode miniseries, and Sakurai and Oshima have been cast in the first episode.
The miniseries, titled gBlackboard ~ Jidai to Tatakatta Kyoushitachi~,h revolves around teachers in different time periods having to deal with the problems of that era. For example, the first episode stars Sakurai as Shirahama, a junior high school teacher who taught his students about gdying for your countryh during wartime. After later losing his right arm in the war, he returns to teaching but is burdened and conflicted by what he taught his students in the past.
Oshima will play one of Shirahamafs colleagues, an English teacher. She becomes an eventual love interest for him, though it seems to develop into a love triangle with his older brotherfs wife (Miyazawa Rie).
This is the first time that an AKB48 member has appeared in a drama starring an Arashi member. Filming will take place between February and March, but it is said that initially their schedules were so busy there was only one day when they were both available. However, their schedules were later adjusted, and the production team gave up on filming on location (due to the time required just to travel) and instead constructed a nearly 2,000-square-meter set in Yokohama that reportedly cost 100 million yen.
The second episode of gBlackboard ~Jidai to Tatakatta Kyoushitachi~h will star Sato Koichi as a teacher during the 1980s having to deal with school violence. Shida Mirai will play a delinquent student, and Kanjiya Shihori will play another teacher at the school.
The cast for the third episode has not yet been finalized.
TBS plans to broadcast gBlackboard ~Jidai to Tatakatta Kyoushitachi~h over three consecutive nights in April.
