haha. i know what you mean. rarely can a live-action show really capture the original anime. i felt nodame cantabile did a good job, though. but that's a rarity...
Yeah, that's why I'm to scared to even try out the live action of Maison Ikkoku. But I wanted to give Nagasawa Masami a second chanche after "Last Friends"... nope, dreadfull acting again. Pity, coz she seems nice and can do a "Hokuto no Ken" yell
Nodame Cantabile is indeed different. The anime characters feel to me a little cardboardlike (probably coz of the drawing style) - very funny but the live action gives the story a more real and emotional touch. (Juri-chan ... Tamaki-kun )
Youve been watching some really great classics this summer. Youch was terrific and I adored KOR. And the datedness (can I use this word?) of it. MAison I didnt finish but I enjoyed what I did watch about 60+ eps. Rumiko Takahashi is a huge favorite of mine. Her URusei Yatsura was the first really long series to get me hooked back in the early 90's. Now Im dating myself...
Did you finish ever Rose Of Versaille? I just finished up with Glass Mask again. Wonderful group who did this group of series.
Talking about dating: I saw those animes the first time in the 80s
Japanese anime always did run on regular TV in Italy (although dubbed in Italian and sometimes with dreadfull adaptation like changing characters names).
I was just happy to be able to see them now in their original glory

i actually preferred the anime to the live-action version, but i usually do. there's just so many facial expressions and actions that can be done in an anime that can't be pulled off well in live-action.
and beem, the voice acting was indeed top-notch. the characters are so wacky, but the voice actors did a superb job of matching the insanity.

The last dvd of Moribito is coming in the mail tomorrow and I can't wait. There's something to be said about a strong woman character who fights with a spear and kicks arse. And she has a kind, caring man on the side to cure her ills.

Yup.
Can't say that I've seen a whole lot of anime, but I'm glad I watched this one, even though I was a bit hesitant at the start.

Nishizaki, producer of 'anime' Yamato, dies after falling into sea
Nov 7, 2010
YOKOHAMA, Nov. 7 (AP) - (Kyodo)\Film producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki, known for the popular TV "anime" series "Uchu Senkan Yamato" (Space Battleship Yamato), died Sunday after falling into waters from a boat anchored at a port at Chichi Island in the Ogasawara island chain in southern Tokyo, local police said.
Nishizaki, 75, fell from the boat around 12:35 p.m. and was rescued about 20 minutes later by a patrol boat, but he died shortly after, the police said.
Nishizaki, whose real given name was Hirofumi, was trying out his 485- ton boat, named Yamato, from Sunday morning near the port. He appears to have accidentally fallen from it while preparing to swim after putting on a swimsuit, according to the police.

Went down just like the real Yamato. Fuggin' weird...need to hear more about how this guy can just fall over and just die. Seems like something is missing.

Yup, especially since he was getting ready to go for a swim in the first place.

I maybe need to see that one then.
Nodame anime I saw after the live and was surprised that I enjoyed it even more.
