Omg, shari! You just say the darndest things!

Am I wrong?
BTW, My 2 top actresses are Natsukawa Yui and Shinohara Ryoko: both of whom are more "mature" actresses. Even Yonekura Ryoko is 34, hardly half my age

There is nothing quite like reading the threads sometimes.....
@cori-chan- I bellieve but am not certain we are in the Discussions On Japanese Dramas section....Im feeling a bit confused myself. Probably from laughing so much
@ Beem- Figured you must be trim with all your working out and light lunches!! Obviously the program is working...
@AD- As long as your wearing your Super Stud Glasses every one will envy you your large boned frame.
I like your choice of actresses BTW. They all can act!

Didnt realize you used that expression down under too. I always like, all that and a bag of chips.
On TOpic: On ep 2 so far Kin No Tamago is really good. The script is very cleverly written in places and there was one scene in the restaurant that had me cracking up. Im off to check out the next ep. _________________

Re. Eita: He keeps popping up in dramas i've watched. I don't think i've ever picked out a drama to watch just because he's in it, but he just shows up unexpectedly. And he rarely puts a foot wrong. (his hair is another matter altogether ) He's probably my favorite J-actor.

The guy's underrated: he's sort of an everyman-type actor who always does a fine job, but is always under the radar... Can't recall very many starring roles for him except in Summer Time Machine Blues and I thought he was very good in that film.
Well, it looks like I just stumbled upon an acting gold mine in this fella, from all the good press you've been giving him. Sure, I'll be on the lookout for his dramas and movies. Maybe give him a few more years to mature and he'll be of the same caliber as (K-drama crossover alert!) Uhm Tae-woong or Gam Woo-sung, these terrific character actors who are finally getting the respect (and fangirl following, hihihi) long due them.

Whoa, I just checked out your reviews... Dang.
There aren't many dramas aside from the NHK Taigas that are that long. But as long as you got it out of your system, cool... JDorama can be cathartic as well.
Yeah I know what you mean, all that Jdorama-induced logorrhea sure cleanses the system reeeeaal gooood... I'm new to J-Ent, but for years I was inflicting my vile, virulent verbiage () on those hapless chumps over at Soompi.com. I've since packed my bag-lady gear and skedaddled down the wormhole into Jdoramaland, where it looks like I'll be here to stay for a pretty long time... But, thanks for making me (and my friends deep inside the earth, who always tell me what to write ) feel more than welcome.

Are they meant to be lethal?
Ive been enjoying them too.
Thanks, Eve. Hehe, they could prove to be lethal if you're NOT a KimuTaku fan, because only Kimura and Kimura alone can seem to set that off in me. Not feeling the least bit penitent about it, though.

I hope they turn out to be interesting ones.
They will!!! They will!!!! Oh right, I haven't seen the other two. But NOBUTA WO PRODUCE won't disappoint!!! (I hope...) Just enjoy it for the fun, diverting, and unexpectedly heartwarming ride that it is. I'd love to hear what you think of it!

OT: Lunch no Joou ep. 8 & 9. The sound on Ep. 9 was playing up - everyone sounded like chipmunks - but it's still enjoyable. The presence of Go Morita is putting a bit of a dampener on things, though.
I just wish Ryosuke's character hadn't been painted as such an evil little cretin when he was first introduced, because in the later episodes (like the ones you're currently watching) he turns out to be this rather normal dude after all. With an actual HEART, too!

Ooomffghh!
I'm no Mod here, but hey--let's go easy on the ad hominem gibes, eh? I have no qualms about bashing actors and idols and celebs, because they're public figures and are thus fair game. (Believe me, if I weren't into YamaPi I'd be laughing along with all the PLANK slurs, lol. But bmwracer and A.D. calling him that is par for the course, so it's all good, baby. I don't hold back MY punches when there's a particular celeb that I can't stand.) But don't you think that this post was a tad below the belt? Regardless of how good-naturedly bmwracer and A.D. seem to be taking it.

Hehehe. Ahhh, Old Man Kitagawa's Evil Kingdom of Doom. My best friend calls it "Johnny and the Chocolate Factory," hahaha. Yeah, I can just imagine all those Jimusho-bred Oompa-Loompas whipping the boys senseless when they flub a dance rehearsal or something. Poor things! All they ever wanted to do was bring some love into this world, lol.
I used to get horrified by the gay cheesefest of happiness that the J-Pop/J-Ent culture is, but I have since realized that possessing any talents or skills whatsoever is apparently not the point. Take those SMAP dudes, who with the exception of Kimura can't sing or dance for sh*t (okay okay, Goro, you're a decent singer, too). But yeah, that's not why I'm fond of them. Hard to put a finger on, really. It's so... inexplicable.
bmwracer wrote:
But are they happy?
I sure hope so... But I doubt you can ever really live a normal life after being "manhandled" (understatement of the year! *ka-ching!*) by that wizened old catamite-loving goblin king, since you were but a wee little boy-o.
I'm new to J-Ent, but for years I was inflicting my vile, virulent verbiage (blah blah) on those hapless chumps over at Soompi.com.
LOL: "Hapless Chumps."

It's par for the course from Shari... I suppose if we can dole it out, we should be able to take it as well.
Oh, and I'm loving the virulent vociferous verbiage...
I'll take that over the "hEy, I cAn TyPe wItH a SpAstic kEybOaRd" or "I'm all 4 dat cuz it's 2 cool" blather.
I don't think the producers/directors/etc. expect anyone to watch every episode of an Asadora. That's why there's soooo much repetition in the darned things.
But Asadoras have done pretty well by J-Drama fans. They keep finding all these amazing unknowns, or Acting novices who go on to have terrific careers. A short, very incomplete list:
In 1989-Yamaguchi Tomoko stared in Jun-chan no Ouenka
& Shimizu Misa stared in Seishun Kazoku
In 1991-Suzuki Kyoka stared in Kimi No Na Wa
In 1993-Toda Naho stared om Eenyobo
In 1998-Sudo Risa stared in Ten Urara
In 1999 Takeuchi Yuko stared in Asuka
In 2002 | Ikewaki Chizuru stared in Honmamon
In 2006- Miyazaki Aoi stared in Junko Kirari
And those are just the names that I look at as a fan of very sort tenure and say... "Ooo! I know her! She's terrific!'
Sawaguchi Yasuko, Matsushima Nanako, and Kanjiya Shihori are three others who took on the Asadora heroine roles early in their careers and have since shown themselves to be accomplished actresses.
But Geezer, as you know, it's often in the supporting casts of Asadora that you find the topnotch performers.
Consider: Yakusho Koji, Nishida Toshiyuki, Ogata Ken--three of the best leading actors in Japanese cinema in the last 30 years--appeared in Asadora. As did most of the best character actors around like Takenaka Naoto, Tsugawa Masahiko, Kishibe Ittoku, Ito Shiro, Emoto Akira, Hashizume Isao, and the list goes on and on.
As far as accomplished lead dorama actresses whose resumes include Asadora supporting roles, how about starting with Suzuki Honami, Tanaka Misako, Kuroki Hitomi, Kanno Miho, and Asano Atsuko. Or cinematic stalwarts like Yoshinaga Sayuri, Miyamoto Nobuko, Fuji Junko, Otake Shinobu, and both Baisho sisters, Chieko and Mitsuko. Knowledgeable dorama and cinema fans would recognize names like Nogiwa Yoko, Kimura Yoshino, Toda Keiko, Wakui Emi, Izumi Pinko, Kiki Kirin, Fubuki Jun, Maya Miki, Iijima Naoko, Uchiyama Rina, Suzuki Sawa, Kikuchi Rinko and this list could go on and on as well.
The point is, even though Asadora are daytime dramas, they often employ top notch talent. In some cases that talent was in the nascent stage of their careers when they appeared in Asadora, but in other cases they were already well established stars.

That certainly is NOT the case in the States.
Day time drama is a stepping stone but I dont see any prime timers choosing them unless kind of desperate later in their careers. _________________

Too true. But if I'd started listing the heavy hitters I've watched in Asadoras since I started with Suzuran back in '99(?)... I'd be sitting here all day.
By the way, it's good to see your name on the page. _________________

Anata no tonari ni dare ga iru, Episode 2, while checking subs. I've already watched it without subs... but boy, do subs make a difference! Now I know what Old Guy With Grey Beard and Sato Aiko's character are up to.
