Do you think Japanese really needs all the English it has? I'm really upset that the Japanese language is using more and more English, even though it doesn't even require that much...for example: �R���s���[�^�[/konpyuutaa for computer = �d�q�v�Z�@/denshi keisanki and �J����/kamera for camera = �ʐ^�@/shashinki...shouldn't the language maintain its individuality by using its OWN words rather than using English words?

well the older generation of japanese feel the same way u do....
i dun mind either way.... its just the newer generations who accept foreing stuff as hip... KINDA LIKE HOW WE ALL like to know our names in japanese.... in japan knowing english is cool...and not to mention that english is the national language of business...so its esential plus its what hollywood speaks and every1 in the world likes hollywood!

This is a repeat of an old thread... Gomen.

To stay relevant in the current world economy, the Japanese (among others) have to adopt English into their language... You shouldn't consider this a dilution of the Japanese language, but the expansion of it. It's a good thing. Really.

Heh thats funny considering English itself borrows heavily from other languages.

Yep me too. For me as a foreigner very interested in / learing Japanese, some of the japanese - english word are pretty funny and it makes me able to guess many stuff, when I think they could be using the the English word...
In the other hand I'm always interested in learning some traditional Japanese, uhm what I mean is for example the kind of Japanese which was spoken in earlier times or like those examples you gave, the original Japanese word as well. One of my friends I'm learning together with is really into it as well so it's no problem for me.
I more dislike it if people try to behave like people from other countries (like many want to be like 'americans' ) For example the �R�M���� (kogyaru) look (it's less popular now I think ?! trying to look like westerners...) I think thats humbly.
