| 1. | My Ultimate Fav! [Rating: 10/10] I absolutely ADORED Churasan, and Ifm so grateful that they released three sequels to fulfill the needs of devoted fans.
Although Churasan has a somewhat predictable and almost unrealistic plot, it is still an excellent watch. Sometimes you just need a happy-go-lucky storyline where everything always works out and everyone is left with a smile on his or her face. Churasan is the type of drama that reminds you that there IS happiness and peace in the world and that leaving things to Fate and Time is not such a bad idea after all.
What makes Churasan so wonderful and addictive is the group of memorable characters. My favourite above all is Mariya (Kanno Miho) | the dark, mean (but kind-hearted), realist author of fairytales. Her goofy grin when she receives delicious donuts from Oba, or her groan whenever people barge into her room, or the way she flings herself onto her couch when suffering from writers block, or the way she tries to hide in order to eavesdrop, and the way she is always caught in an embarrassing situationc all these thins contribute to her unique and memorable character. Following at a close second is Yuko-chan (Yo Kimiko), the outspoken, very kind and loving, motivated, aggressive, loyal, and hilarious woman who seems to connect all the characters together. And we mustnft forget Eri, played by Kuninaka Ryoko. Ryoko-chan completely blew me away. Her performance is perfection itself and without her in this role this drama would not be as grand as it is. One will never tire of her big gorgeous smile and eyes that reveal more of the character than just mere actions could.
Of course, there are so many characters in this drama, and each one is memorable. The writers did an excellent job concocting each character, and each actor/actress did a phenomenal job turning those characters into masterpieces.
Watching Churasan is like being part of the family. You laugh with them, cry with them, and above all, you enjoy the time you spend being a part of them. This drama is HIGHLY recommended! | Reviewed by Wynter on 1 January 2008 | 2. | Good, but maybe a little overrated [Rating: 8/10] Churasan is an agreeable slice of life, a family story of people whose lives revolve around the parallel themes of Okinawan culture and fate. Especially as the series develops, the story teases out the personalities - each quite different - and, so far as the casting in concerned, also decidedly cute.
Churasan is rather mundane in the plot department, but compensates with a thee-dimensional cast of characters that (did I mention this?) are also really cute.
Ryoko Kunikawa is never at a loss for a broad smile (and of course, she's quite the looker), and Kenji Kohashi is almost her match. Tomi Taira is the energetic obasan who provides a running narrative of events. In fact, you might be tempted to ignore the rambling plot and humor that more often than not inspires more smiles than laughs. But for once, the easygoing Okinawan mood is a good excuse for a relaxed plotline, and the characters are (sorry, there's no avoiding it) cute enough to sustain your attention.
That said, Churasan is pleasant, but rarely compelling, It's a good excuse to pour a glass or two of cold sake. | Reviewed by jdoramadotcom on 4 July 2011 | 3. | Too Cute for Words! [Rating: 10/10] I loved watching this series while living in Japan in 2001. I had to move before the end though and now I can't find it. I really want to watch the rest, anyone know where to purchase or watch online? Once you start to watch this series, you will get addicted to Eri and other strange cast members. :) PM me please! :) | Reviewed by brew99 on 13 January 2009 | 4. | Thin 'n fun [Rating: 8/10] The paper-thin story of this asadora is held together by a solid cast, some good comedy and inviting settings populated by colorful characters. If Kuninaka Ryoko bubbles, her male co-star is as wooden as another co-star who has the excuse of being a tree. | Reviewed by shari on 12 November 2007 |

A mere "10" doesn't even come close to defining how superb this lil' gem is (heh..."...lil'..."...with its 156 eps, not that lil', actually ^_^) though it's kinda difficult to describe it without giving away anything (and that'd be a pity, as it'd take away from future viewers the pleasure of discovering it step by step), therefore I'll limit myself to this very short - and if I may say so myself, quite apt - description: "the poetry of life" ^_^
Huge congrats to everyone involved in this production, with honorable mentions for the script (oh, those witty, theatrical dialogues! and then again, it makes you laugh, cry, think, dream...the whole nine yards!) and for these actors/actresses in particular: Kuninaka Ryoko (a wonderful lead!), Sakai Masaaki (a very funny father!), Murata Takehiro (oh, those hilarious monologues!), Kanno Miho (a perfect tsundere!) and Taira Tomi (the überwise Obaa!). M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E!!! | 2. | Comments by arglborps [Rating: 8/10] The story alone is just a cute little story about two children who promise each other to get married once they've grown up and especially the girl really believing that comise get fulfilled one day. It's also a little "Oddyssey" of her to find the boy again whom she promised to marry so many years ago.
What makes this drama really fun to watch are the many interesting and funny characters. This starts with the lazy father who sits around all day long playing the sanshin (an Okinawa style shamisen), then the main character with her striking naiveness, also Maria (played by Miho Kanno), a faery tale writer whose cynical and sarcastic character so nicely mismatches her profession and many other who all end up being completely enchanted by the winning charme and naivity of the main character. And somehow end up having their lifes completely changed by the appearence of that quirky little girl from Okinawa. | 3. | Comments by Nermal [Rating: 9/10] This drama figures amongst my favorites. The story itself, although extremely far-fetched at points, is very cute and the characters are endearing.
The actors gave such life and personality to their respective characters that it makes it extremely enjoyable to watch despite it`s length (156 x15minutes episodes). This is one drama I thought was even too short up to an extent. I always wanted to see more (and there has been 3 sequel so far).
A Big thumbs up for the cast though! Highly recommended | 4. | Comments by usako [Rating: 10/10] I absolutely loved this drama. I wish I taped it! It's absolutely one of my favorites! It makes you laugh, cry, scream.. everything!! It's everything in a drama that I love! Wonderfull story. Highly recomended! | 5. | Comments by gregsan [Rating: 10/10] GREAT drama series. My favorite!!
English title is questionable translation. I don't think there really is a correct English translation.
Also this was a 15 minute morning drama with 156 episodes. | 6. | Comments by minochi99 [Rating: 6/10] Memory of this was fuzzy since it was awhile ago that I watched it. But I remember that it was pretty good and that I tried to watch whenever I can since the series was so long. | 7. | Comments by oldasianguy [Rating: 10/10] Watched the original on KTSF in bay area a few years ago...plan to watch it again ..Okinawa is my favorite place in Japan...love the music and dancing... | 8. | Comments by Wynter [Rating: 10/10] The best asadora I've seen to date! I want to watch the rest but do not know where to purchase or watch online. :( | 10. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 7/10] The funniest asadora, but the last 15-20 episodes were basically "filler" and a cliche ending, still I liked it a lot. | 11. | Comments by Enna [Rating: 9/10] A lovely tale of life coming full circle with family and friends. 1. | Nermal Quite frankly, despite the length of this drama, every single moment of it was worth it. From laughter to tears, this had everything beautifully brought.
The cast of actors is just as amazing too. From the leads to the supporting cast, everyone gave a very nice light to their characters. And I have to say that Yo Kimiko, Toda Keiko and Kanno Miho cracked me up to tears in their respective roles.
Seriously a very nice family drama! | 2. | oldasianguy Great series with a great story line and cast!!
