Synopsis |
---|
The tight housing situation in major cities has caused a dramatic increase in the number of duplex houses. What happens to family life when several generations share this kind of environment?
This engaging drama shows one glimpse into a new style of family. The husband and wife have built a duplex to accommodate their eldest daughter and her husband-to-be. But this peaceful arrangement is thrown into chaos when the eldest son, a university student, "rescues" his girlfriend from another man in the midst of their wedding ceremony, just as in the movie "The Graduate."
What does the future hold? Can a new and more lasting balance be attained in the lives of the family members? | TBS |

| 1. | Charming domestic drama [Rating: 9/10] This drama begins where The Graduate ends - an anxious guy (Nishijima) walks into a church and steals away with the bride (who doesn't put up much of a fight). Mokuyoubi no shokutaku starts from this premise to provide a light, quietly engaging love story. The bride doesn't escape, but nobody can understand why such a quiet boy should suddenly be possessed with such a will. Unlike The Graduate, the drama explores the most fascinating aspect of the entire situation: how does an apologetic Japanese family deal with such an extravagant show of love?
While dramatic, this is never heavy or overdone; it's essentially a love story. | Reviewed by jdoramadotcom on 31 July 2008 | 2. | A good Drama to Pass the Time [Rating: 7/10] On the likeness scale of bearability, I would say this drama is mediocre. The acting from the mother and father - Tomita and Furuya - was stellar and kept me entertained. However, because the drama catches a glimpse into a family's life, I felt disjointed from it. I couldn't really connect and I felt more like a voyeur than anything else.
It was good, but it was always forgettable and I'll probably never watch it again. | Reviewed by Wynter on 21 January 2012 |
