| 1. | Mental Disabled Mother Raising a Normal Child [Rating: 10/10] The main storyline of this dorama is about mental disabled mother (Yuzu chan) who tried to raise a normal child - Himawari. The family of Yuzu is very supportive especially her mother and Ren - her brother. It's kind of contradictive whereby Yuzu as eldest in the family is a mental disable and Ren is a scholarship music student.
The story starts with Sou-chan, mental disabled man who met Yuzu in Tanpopo - a training place for mental disabled people. They had a relationship. One day there was a child tried to pick up his ball and never really paid attention on the traffic, then there was a truck in high speed towards this child. Just for the sake of helping this child, Sou-chan ran and pushed the child aside. Unfortunately Sou-chan's life cannot be saved. It was so hard for Yuzu to accept this news and she seem like cannot really understand that Sou-chan had left this world forever.
Doctor found out that Yuzu was one month pregnant and told her family. At first Yuzu's mother disagreed of an idea that Yuzu wanted to continue her pregnancy. The reason being was Yuzu already has a hard time in taking care of herself i.e. tying up her hair, cooking. However due to Yuzu's eagerness to learn and wants to have family, in the end her mother approved her pregnancy and she delivered a baby girl - named Himawari (sunflower). Sou-chan likes himawari and that's why her girl was named this way.
The story evolves to how Yuzu raised her child, starting from breastfeeding, change the diaper and understand all about baby. There's a child care consultant - Katsukawa San who came to Fukuhara's house just to observe whether Yuzu is fit to become Himawari's mother. At first Katsukawa san was sceptical on Yuzu's ability in taking care her child. She was proposing to Yuzu's mother that Himawari was put into facility. But then Yuzu's mother rejected that and asked her to observe a little longer to understand Yuzu better.
At the end when Yuzu's mother fell sick, it likes one soul missing from the house. There's no meal for breakfast or dinner, even there was a time Himawari was re-using her dirty sport clothes. At last, Yuzu realized that she needed somebody elses' help for her to increase her ability to do things herself. She said that she needed Kotone-chan, Anzai-san, Ren, Himawari, her mother, and Nomura-san. The ending was perfect and so touching. I was really touched by this dorama. One thing that I'm not sure, is it in Japan all people are so helpful like was depicted in this dorama? | Reviewed by sevilla.aishiya on 19 September 2009 | 2. | Absolutely phenomenal [Rating: 10/10] I was very skeptical of this series when I first checked the plot synopsis and cast, since I have only seen Karina in super cool/emotionless characters before this, and none of them have been particularly impressive except "Shaberedomo x2", which was a movie. However, this series had an abnormal rise in Oricon anticipation -> satisfaction ratings so I decided to give it a try. It was one of the best dorama decision I have ever made.
"Daisuki!!" is a human drama about a mentally disabled woman, Yuzu, raising her child without a father (died in accident) with support of family and friends. Together they overcome many obstacles they face from pregnancy to elementary school.
Karina was absolutely amazing in her performance, where not only did she make a believable mental patient, she also expressed the positive energy and purity/honesty of her character very well. Her characterwas developed very well, and I really connected with Yuzu. It's a series I laughed and cried whenever she did.
Although Kishimoto Kayoko, who played Yuzu's mother overacted a little bit in the first episode and Hiraoka Yuuta, who played Yuzu's brother Ren was a bit cheesy in the final episode, every other member of the cast put up very solid performances for this well-made dorama.
The story was very touching and inspirational, and they have covered just about every obstacles Yuzu and her family members would face because of her disability.
Ending theme by melody. was very suitable for this series and it was directed exceptionally well for a low-budget-fast-pace dorama production. I especially loved that first time-transition of baby-to-2 year old Himawari in the park. It is apparent a lot of effort was put into the production.
10/10, best dorama series made in the last 4 years. | Reviewed by 8thSin on 26 June 2008 | 3. | Truly Heartwarming [Rating: 9/10] One of the better dramas I've seen recently. It's a story about a mentally disabled woman who fell in love with another mentally disabled man. Due to an unfortunate accident the man dies and leaves her alone and pregnant with only her family and friends to help her.
Will she be able to have her baby? Her family, after seeing how bent she was on having a child of her own fianlly agrees and allows her to have her baby. That's just the first episode...
Throughout the next episodes we see how she struggles to raise the child while dealing with a lot of issues like finding a job, a day care for her daughter, and meeting her late lover's younger sister while trying to keep child services off her back.
Till we reach the last episodes where she encounters the biggest challenge of all. Will she crumble under pressure or will she finally steps out of her comfort zone and learn how to do things for herself?
Karina did a very good job portraying the character as did the mom and brother. What really surprized me is the number of beautiful women that was in this drama. There is Kotonechan, Anzai san, Natsume chan, and even Momoka the shopkeepers daughter where the mom works.
Karina did win win two best actress awards for her role in this drama. | Reviewed by sinned12 on 10 March 2009 | 4. | Karina is Amazing in this wonderful show [Rating: 9/10] It's taken me a few years to gain the courage I knew I needed to watch this show. I wasn't sure I had it in me to watch something so emotionally charged. I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and watched it.
After the first few episodes, and after crying through each one, I began to worry that this drama would continue to be a sobfest, but through cheap tricks the directors use to make their audience cry. It did continue to be a sobfest, but with a turn towards depth. I'm so glad the drama morphed into being more about the family and their connection with Yuzu, as opposed to a disabled person constantly being degraded by society.
Although there were some inconsistencies and loose ends, Karina's portrayal of Yuzu was so heartwarming that these flaws do not matter. She was wonderful. Kishimoto Kayoko was endearing, and even ol' Hiraoka Yuta, who has annoyed me since the movie Nana, has gotten into my good graces.
I may never watch this drama again, because I'm not sure I have the tears left, but it was beautiful while it lasted. I highly recommend it. | Reviewed by Wynter on 26 November 2011 | 5. | 1 Litre of Tears [Rating: 10/10] Woah. My first drama series that I watched was 1 Litre of Tears, and that was all I could say. I rewatched it again and again, and found myself loving the plot more; simply a young girl struggling to live. | Reviewed by YukariYagiri on 28 October 2010 | 6. | 1 Litre of Tears [Rating: 10/10] Woah. | 1. | Comments by oldasianguy [Rating: 10/10] Rated this series a 10 because of the performance of Karina...in other words Karina disappeared and I was only aware of Yuzu on the screen.....I hope she wins "Best actress award" somewhere ......Interesting not too important fact .....Yuzu worked in a bakery, In KinPachi Sensei 7 Yayoi (who was mentally disabled) worked in a bakery, and in Algernon ni Hanataba there was a bakery where a group of mentally diabled worked..........hmmmm | 2. | Comments by aoi_dolphine [Rating: 8/10] Having Karina taking the role of a mental disable person is refreshing for a change. This is also a chance for me to see her in another new image. She pull the role off well and the drama really addresses the problems faced by the family and the person herself. Worth watching. | 3. | Comments by sadacori [Rating: 9/10] This is a wonderful story about a mentally disabled woman who has a child. Though there are struggles and hardship, she does her best (with the help of friends and family) and matures into a loving mother, helpful daughter, and considerate sister. Highly recommended | 4. | Comments by chokakoi [Rating: 9/10] A very touching drama.
And I am glad the ending was nice. It reflects the pain that the mentally-disabled people are going through, and it's touching to see how in the show, many people are willing to help them and give them chances. | 5. | Comments by v1olet [Rating: 9/10] A heartwarming family drama about a mild mentally dissabled Yuzu raising her daughter Himawari as single mom. That's how a family are supposed to be, help each other, support each other, and comfort each other. Daisuki! | 6. | Comments by rikastar [Rating: 7/10] Karina has not really impressed me much before as an actress or mode before but I think this is a real breakthrough for her. An equally solid performance from the actress playing the role of Yuzu's mom as well. | 7. | Comments by suzzy [Rating: 9/10] just great the actors and actress did a superb job they brought the story ti life... had a few tears in some episodes for me its a nice recommendation to those to see a different side of the actress and actors | 8. | Comments by Madrigal [Rating: 9/10] This is pretty good to but no 1 liter of tears. It had the makings of it but story is just a little weaker and some might not be convinced with Katrina Nose as Fukuhara Yuzu. Katrina is still good tho. | 9. | Comments by xploring [Rating: 7/10] The 3 main actresses delivered very good performances, but I don't like this very much. I don't dislike it, but it just seemed too ... sentimental sometimes. It has its sincere moments too though. | 10. | Comments by Wynter [Rating: 9/10] I've finally watched it! It was as sad as I thought it would be and equally as heartwarming. I loved everything about it, especially Karina and her portrayal of Yuzu. Brilliant work. | 11. | Comments by marspeach [Rating: 9/10] Inevitably cheesy but overall a very touching show and a different subject from the usual stuff. Karina was great and so believable playing retarded. Cried several times per episode. | 12. | Comments by nickylynn [Rating: 8/10] Touching drama. Not really my type of drama, but I thought the main actress did an excellent job protraying a handicapped person. The story is quite touching and at times very sad. | 14. | Comments by JackClark [Rating: 10/10] I love this drama, Karina acting blows me away.
