Yuki Uchida (whom we've watched in "Akimahende!") was brilliant in generating the comedy in this series. In all, a touching family plot of a husband's love and devotion to his hard-working lawyer wife, his dealing with the issue-laden neighbor next door, am older son who befriends a transvestite, a daughter who is looking to rush blindly into marriage with a rich man and a young child who faces the teasing by his siblings over his stay-at-home dad. In the end, even these trials take back stage to more serious matters and the love and strength of the family shows in dealing with them. Bottom line: a funny dorama that can be silly at times ... but one that is equally heart-warming. |

Otousan or should I say Papa is so nice here, always singing, smiling and reminiscing his experiences with Mama plus being the gstay-at-home-dadh. And, instead of him being feared by the children, now itfs the mother. Hefs the one doing the begging and stuff so Mama will forgive the faults and mistakes of their children. I had a nice time watching this especially when Pinko-san showed up. I'm really a sucker when it comes to family dramas. |
3. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 6/10] Ok, so what differs this family drama from others is that the husband, Tamura Masakazu, is the "housewife". He's cooking, cleaning, worrying about the children & overall acting girlish. It works for a while but then it's not fun anymore, it just gets irritating & pathetic. The highlight of the show is Abe Sadayo who does a very convincing gay, the funniest part of this drama. I'm not sure I liked the outcome of that subplot though. Basically it's just another family drama, not that bad but not that good either. |
4. | Comments by nishishi [Rating: 8/10] Nice family dorama... nothing memorable tough. The casting is quite good (Sadayo Abe once again did a marvelous job playing a gay character) The plot is just what u expect from a family dorama.... a hardship appears the family struggle and then become happy and united once again. So if u dont really like family dorama this one probably wont do any good for you.
The ending was ok... they could've come with something better i think (specially the neighbour sub plot...). Nways... still a good dorama. |
5. | Comments by Shindou [Rating: 8/10] Not bad! Really quite an enjoyable family dorama which brings back memories of Otousan, Oyaji and Brother Beat. Then again, its hard not to when Tamura Masakazu and Tamayama Tetsuji are both back in this type of setting. Tamura's old mannerisms are still around and the lack of a really convincing storyline was the main weakness feeling more like a mishmash of those afore-mentioned family dramas. Kobayashi Satomi was hilarious as the neighbour lady at the beginning! |
6. | Comments by sasukekun6 [Rating: 10/10] I absolutely love this drama!!! No lie when it says "a heartwarming story." The characters are all so loveable and fun!! I especially love Papa and Pinko-san. Tamura Masakazu's Papa was insanely perfect. I'm also happy to see a semi-realistic portrayal of the life of a cross-dressing homosexual. I think Abe Sadao did a fantastic job as Pinko-san. |
7. | Comments by Wynter [Rating: 7/10] This drama was okay. It was very typical for a family drama so nothing new was presented. This is one of those dramas where the side characters (Pinko-san, Yamashita, and especially Tsunami-san ) really carry the show and make it entertaining. I liked the drama overall because I'm a sucker for family dramas, and this one delivered as one. |
8. | Comments by hitomi #1 [Rating: 8/10] Just being a 9 due to a slow start but this is one fine drama. It's a family one but not nearly as fluffy as most in the genre, really interesting storylines for all the characters, though a bit light hearted and very funny throughout it also gets quite serious often dealing with some difficult subject matters. |
9. | Comments by chibichan [Rating: 6/10] i kinda disappointed with the ending of this dorama. I always like Family dorama, the very start of this dorma is really interesting but after a few episodes, when they trying to tell about Oniichan who turn out to be gay, i hate it. Why they have to put that issues and the whole family act like nothing happen. |
10. | Comments by occultangle [Rating: 6/10] A decent family drama. The charachter types are good and the plot is touching, but it's hard to keep watching because it's mostly just boring. There's nothing exciting about it, it's not particularly funny, and when it tries to be serious it mostly only manages to be sappy. Not many good actors either. |
11. | Comments by v1olet [Rating: 8/10] What a weird family. The papa who's truly deeply madly in love with mama. And everybody loved mama more than anyone. The narrator was Kaoru, 11 years old boy. What dissappoint me was Akira and Pinko-san marriage. |
12. | Comments by onigiriman [Rating: 2/10] Tamura is perhaps the most boring actor on J-TV ever. but I decided to watch it because of Ito Ran, but she was not good enough to carry the drama. I barely finished the first episode. |
13. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 9/10] A great dorama, nice staring. Each actor did well, a special prize for kobayashi that played the neighbour role! I think that she adds sarcastic scenes that makes the show better. |
14. | Comments by strawberryfzz [Rating: 9/10] So cute! Who woulda thought Akira would have ended up with who he did? Way to go Japan! There's hope for you after all. lol In that aspect, this drama is in a league of its own. |
15. | Comments by maui [Rating: 7/10] nice family drama.tamura masakazu's character in this drama was different from what we can see in otousan and oyaji.he's not an annoying or a stubborn dad anymore. |
16. | Comments by miriya52 [Rating: 8/10] ahhh tetsuji just looks so gay in this one. i like his look in brother beat much more. Nevertheless, this is a well-done drama and worth watching! |
17. | Comments by xhidex33 [Rating: 8/10] Fun and interesting family life. Ending is kinda weird.. especially with the older brother... |
18. | Comments by icpmat [Rating: 4/10] plot is somewhat old. What a coincidence, this is another clichie drama with Tamayama in it. |
19. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 4/10] Pretty lame. If it wasn't for Yuki Uchida and Ito Ran I would have given this a 2. |
20. | Comments by ct_subang [Rating: 6/10] a hilarious family drama...Tamura is always the likeable PAPA to every drama... |
