Synopsis |
---|
Kozue Ogawa (Makiko Esumi) is a housewife and has been married to Hideo (Toshiro Yanagiba) for seven years. They don't have any children but as they live with her parents at their flower shop, everyday is still lively. She is happy with her life and her husband but she wonders if it is enough. From time to time she is gripped by this doubt that cannot raise with anyone.
Kozue starts a part-time job in the editing department of the magazine where she used to work. Her former colleague is now working hard as the editor-in-chief.
One rainy day, Kozue meets a young man. He is Takuma Fukazawa (Tomohisa Yamashita), a high school student. He seems somehow shrouded in sadness. He is a dance teacher. In the dance studio, there is just the two of them.
Takuma curls his hands around Kozue's body and his dance instruction begins. Their unexpected closeness causes Kozue to hesitate. With her heart pounding, she pushes Takuma's hands away and runs home. But the throbbing in her chest continues. It can't be. But what is this feeling? | TBS |

| 1. | Unexpectedly engaging [Rating: 9/10] Like a lot of people who had given reviews before me, Yamapi was the reason why I watched this series. I was also prepared for the possibility that this drama wouldn't be anything special because of the (relatively) low viewership ratings as well the negative reviews that it got. However, when I started watching the show, I got hooked. The story was very subtle, and it worked to its advantage, in my opinion. I beg to differ, but there is definitely chemistry between the lead characters. There is always that feeling of the whole relationship being awkward and wrong, and that's how it should be, as it is a case of forbidden love. It's nothing racy, and it appeals more to a person's feelings and sympathies. I haven't seen the last episode yet, but I can tell that a lot of people were disappointed with it. However, I find this series really touching, and even if I didn't read any reviews about it, I would still see it to the end, because it's really good. I've seen a number of dramas, and it's been a while since I've been excited about a series as I am about this one. A bit underrated, true, but it's something that more mature viewers could perhaps understand and relate to. | Reviewed by chie-chan on 5 January 2008 | 2. | ~Your thoughts realised in life!!~ [Rating: 9/10] For me, this drama was realisation of my thoughts in life.
Although you're married and you love your another half, once in a while you have crazy/wild craving for new romance, new life... It's like as if you're a steady lighting fire, but when you add more wood in it and fire becomes much stronger and more beautiful. I think the drama is simply about it. Kozue-san tries really hard to retain her marriage and be true to herself, but it's very difficult when your heart and your head say different things. Heart calls for romance and adventure, but head tells you to stop.
People are different, therefore, the way one may understand the meaning of this drama will of course be different. For traditional viewers, this drama is like forbidden theme, while for me, this is a relief to think that there are people who think that this kind of love exists in this world.
This is so far my review and impression about the drama after watching 3 episodes. Although I am a person who reads the last page first and fast forwards to see the end, now I am restraining myself to watch each and every episode without knowing the end. | Reviewed by ena on 9 March 2007 | 3. | Unique drama, excellent performance by Yamapi [Rating: 9/10] Although it was slow-moving in parts and the ending was a bit of a cop out, I thought overall this drama was excellent. It had a very unique feel to me which I can't exactly put my finger on. Perhaps because it was a more complicated depiction of what it means to fall, and be, in love than I expected.
I thought the two leads were excellent, and was particularly surprised to see such a subtle, understated performance from Yamapi. He is head and shoulders above most Johnny's who lack his maturity and have to scream their lines to express emotion.
The chemistry between the leads was very good and I absolutely cared about them as individuals and a couple. He connected with her on many levels while his scenes with Kaori were stilted and downright painful to watch. She was one of the least likeable characters in a drama that I've ever seen, and I thought Ayase's character was an annoying psycho.
I do think the story would have been a bit more plausible and compelling if Yamapi's character were college age. High school is just too young. | Reviewed by prestoli on 31 October 2009 | 4. | Different ... [Rating: 7/10] First i watched it because YamaPi was in it, and i thought the lead actress was quite pretty and she's good at acting. I thought Yamapi did a great job as the "younger boy having a crush on an older female", he's crying is so sweet! And his dancing in this made me think he really is a professional =)
I didn't think that the ending was that well done though, that made me dislike the drama, i wanted the ending to be a good one. I also didn't like the fact that she is married to a sweet guy, it made me want to root for the adult/teen relationship and the husband/wife. This makes me drama interesting but i felt sorry for the husband.
It's worth watching but i think they dragged some bits on and made it boring, i had to fast forward or always play it 2x faster because it wasn't interesting.
The romance in this is actually convincing for me, i thought Pi and the actress did this whole relationship really well and the sweet and mushy scenes i had to watch twice =) | Reviewed by Evil_Ellie on 29 January 2006 | 5. | A Would Have Been Great Drama if not for the Story [Rating: 6/10] The typical older woman/younger man drama that tries to portray the love in which age doesn't matter. However, the problem with it was that the older woman in this drama was married. It was hard to sympathize with Esumi Makiko's character, Kozue-san when she was married with a man who loves her very much. And there was not much grounds for the love between her and Takuya (Yamashita Tomohisa) for there to have been a plausible love where the audience could root for them. Simply put, there was no chemistry.
This drama fails in one of the most important aspects of Romance storylines - you simply just don't care about the characters. And if that was not enough, the ending is very, very weak. | Reviewed by donna8157 on 3 May 2005 | 6. | ^^ [Rating: 8/10] I'm kinda like this drama...the story itself is a little bit real and I think this kind of love never end in happy ending way.
I kinda like the end of the story and all of the actor and actress were fit in the role. Sometimes I think Takuma is a person who hard to understand but it can be that kind of person in this world LOL.
I like this drama ^^ | Reviewed by penguinpingu on 6 July 2004 | 7. | Well worth while [Rating: 9/10] Esumi Makiko's character leads a happy if somewhat boring marriage unexpectedly finds herself attracted attracted to a younger man. In parts this drama is slow and perhaps has less passion than other dramas but it is very engaging. Great performances from Esumi Makiko, YamaPi and Yanagiba Toshiro. Nice ending. | Reviewed by Sun_Shang_Xiang on 14 April 2011 | 8. | Not sure I like the ending [Rating: 8/10] It was Asian perspective that older female should leave the younger boy. Well, the husband was too good to abandon but, in Kozue's heart, is it really good for leaving the boy????? | 1. | Comments by yurifly [Rating: 5/10] In general, I dislike the older woman-younger man plot which sadly seems very popular among many Johnnys. I've seen Takki, Jin and now Yamapi (heck, even Kimura Takuya did this kinda plot in Long Vacation)
This drama is really slow and although I can sort of sympathize with Kozue as the bored wife, I was more often annoyed by the fact that she continually gives in to the whim of an 18 year old who I think is simply carried by the moment. After all, 18 is too young to understand what love really is and the responsibility that comes with love and being married. That being said, I find Kozue rather irresponsible for even getting involved with someone so young, especially with a husband like Ogawa. And honestly, how the hell does a banker turn to become a flower delivery man? The drama does have a a full cast of young starting actors...it's a bit unusual for me to see Ayase Haruka, Yamada Yu and Yamapi as supporting actors cuz I'm so used to their leading roles these days. Strangely for Yamapi, I always find his acting in older dramas to be better than the ones where he is the lead (though the characters he play are also more generic). I think he is more natural when he doesn't have that pressure to maintain good ratings and where he can really just act. | 2. | Comments by Kitsuchi [Rating: 9/10] I really liked this series. Sad and emotional and sweet.. I liked the songs used in it and the cast acted very great too. The only disappointment was the ending, otherwise it'd probably be the greatest.
I really recommend this for others to watch. It was very sweet and I always looked forward to continue watching it. It may have a typical story, but I felt that this was kind of different. I don't really know what it is, that makes this different, but it definitely is. That's what I felt.. You should see and judge for yourself.
I could absolutely watch this twice or three times more. That's how sweet and innocent I felt this series was. Even if there are several other series with the same kind of story, the quality of it is what makes it stand out more than the others. I think this series made it through without dragging out too much or complicate things which is easy to do.
Watch :). | 3. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 6/10] This drama should be avoided. With a forbidden love type of plot revolving around a married woman and a younger man you'd think there would be more chemistry between the two since that's the most important aspect of a romance-based drama. But it's very much the complete opposite. The moments between Esumi Makiko and Yamashita Tomohisa were awkward to say the least.
I also found problems with the fact that Esumi Makiko was married and she acted as if she was still single. It was confusing and also took away from whatever little chemistry there could have been between Ogawa Kozue and the dance instructor Fukuzawa Takuma.
When reading the premise of the series off of jdorama, I thought the story would be good. But it definitely wasn't. It's not worth watching. | 4. | Comments by sadacori [Rating: 7/10] Part Majou no Jouken and part Shall We Dance, this drama is about falling in love with someone even though you are married. Only that someone just happens to be a dance instructor still in high school.
I understand why some people thought that this drama was immoral, but from a woman's point of view, I can see something like that happening, especially if life gets into a comfortable (albeit, boring) routine. When someone interesting pops into your life, it can suddenly get exciting, and though most people would choose not to do anything, there are some people who give in to temptation. This drama has a realistic approach to that scenario and I thought it was a good drama. | 5. | Comments by keikotl [Rating: 6/10] Ekk, I can't believe I would give such a low rating to one of Yamapi's drama. But then again, I only watched it because of Yamashita Tomohisa. I thought the drama was just average and I added a point for the actors' effort because everyone did their role very well. I really don't like the plots with younger men falling in love with older women but if they have a good explaination for it, I can accept, but for this one, I can side with Takuma Fukazawa, but for Ogawa Kozue, it was really hard for me to tolerate her feelings for Takuma since she's already married. This might be the first drama that I'm not disappointed with a non-typical happy ending. | 6. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 8/10] Not a half bad drama. I was captivated Esumi Makiko's gorgeous figure and long, full hair. She was serious but she had this softness just around the edges that made her very likable. Overall I was happy with the way it ended. Who knows what would've been in the future for those people? Yet what made me give this series and 8 instead of a 9 was that same uncertainty and that final scene between Kozue and Hideo. It made me think that they would end up back together after all, and I think they're just not right for each other after all. | 7. | Comments by marzyu [Rating: 4/10] REALLY BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG DRAMA!!!!!!! the only reason i watched it was because of yamapi :] but it gave me a disappointment anyways kekekeke i never got to like esumi so yeah . . . .it was sorta weird for me to watch them together since i tihnk yamapi only looks good with younger girls . . . .but i liked one part . . . .WHEN THEY WENT TO EAT OKONOMIYAKI MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA I WAS HARSH DROOLING WHEN I SAW THEM EATING IT . .. . and yeah .. . there was natto too . . .I haven't tried them yet, but i'm gonna soon ^.^ | 8. | Comments by joychin [Rating: 9/10] It's not bad. From the title,i tot it was going to be boring but surprisingly,it's not. In fact, not at all. However, one thing i realised about the drama, there doesn't seem to be any background music and intrumentals only the theme song at the beginning of the drama.....but i don't mind it. I really like the relationship btwn the husband and the wife.. .I mean, you barely see them fight except for one part where the husband raised his voice.....and basically, that was it. LOL. I really the admire kozue. | 9. | Comments by cass_dust [Rating: 4/10] was expecting it to be a good drama.. and there would be some chemistry between yamapi & makiko... BUT ...
it was a total disappointment.. gave it 4 because makiko was good in the show...
the show is very slow... got a bit boring towards the middle part...
no chemistry between actor & actress.. yamapi was not really good in the show... guess this role doesn't suit him... i think he is better in stand up! :(
bought this show because of makiko.. and partly because of yamapi... well.. | 10. | Comments by AK [Rating: 8/10] Actually, this dorama is good, but if we talk about "forbidden love" stories, there are better ones. I guess that's what make of this dorama not THAT good as you expected.
Despite this, I like it anyways. I saw it in ONE day. There were moments when you get a bit bored but just for a minute.
This dorama has one of my favourite "romantic" scenes ever. And, if you just like Esumi, this dorama will make you love her. If you already loved her, you'll love her even more!
The end is.... o.O | 11. | Comments by daniela [Rating: 6/10] Well, this time I get why Esumi Makiko as Kozue decided to let Takuma go and eventually come back to her husband.
I think that things like this happens a lot and it is not necessarily bad if it does not lead to infidelity (like in this case)..people have great relationship but are still not satisfied, suddenly they meet another person that shows them something different and helps them to open their eyes and realize what their really want.. | 12. | Comments by yume [Rating: 7/10] I expected to enjoy this drama thorougly, but the only thing I really enjoyed at first was the set of the characters' homes. The story took awhile to capture my attention. The whole dancing young boy and career woman fall in love in a dance studio bit--um, wait, WHAT? Other than that, it has its moments, I guess. A spin on forbidden love--but with a twist. Won't say what, else I spoil it. | 13. | Comments by Sorata [Rating: 7/10] I didnLt gave 8 to this because i hated the ending, but the dorama overall was good.
ItLs the tipical young guy/old woman story but this time both of them have great partners: she has a good husband and he has a great girlfriend so itLs hard for you us to side with them, thatLs one of the things i loved in this dorama. Well if you like forbidden love storys you wonLt be disapointed. | 14. | Comments by fybabe [Rating: 6/10] Really it's much ado about absolutely nothing!
I wouldn't have given it such a high score if it weren't for the lead actress, who i like. the lead guy is cute too, but he doesn't seem to put enough effort into his act... and the script is so weak, and i personally hate stories where you are forced to pity the terminally sick/genetically ill/suddenly cancerous lead! | 15. | Comments by nienna [Rating: 6/10] i've only watched 3 episodes so far and have a very high opinion on this drama~~ YamaPi's so cute but it's so hard to predict his character. i mean, how in the world can he pop up so easily in front of the main actress? is he stalking her or something? what does takuma expect from kozue-san? does he even know that she's married to the sweestest man on earth??? | 16. | Comments by Kiyomi L. Denise [Rating: 4/10] Aww man, look at my rating, and you've already guessed what I would say. Oh, super super super regret buying this drama... First of all, I dislike relationships where girls are older than guys, then... *sigh* it's just too far. Their age gap, I mean. Again, I bought the drama for only ONE reason, Yamashita Tomohisa. Gawd, I should stop acting like this. | 17. | Comments by pinkokoro [Rating: 5/10] COMPLETE. HS. why would you want to fall in love with a younger boy when you have such nice and faithful husband??? I can't comprehend. if your husband is bad, etc, although I still dislike the ideas of a wife getting an affair etc, it is somewhat 'more' acceptable than when u have a very caring, wonderful husband. | 18. | Comments by Angry Machines [Rating: 5/10] tomohisa and makiko in the same drama and the two are the main stars?....I already started losing intrest. I forced my self to watch it till the end. The ending surprised me, but I did like it for what it meant for the whole idea of the show. Recommened to fans of the two actors only, otherwise don't bother. | 19. | Comments by Ayzee^^Aya [Rating: 9/10] im not sure y people keep saying "there's no chemistry between them" .that is absolutely not true !! Kozue tried to protect herself from involved in this 'forbidden love' .each plot make me excited to know what will happen at the end of the story ..i really wish Kozue-Takuma end-up together ..Poor me (o; | 20. | Comments by akitsu [Rating: 3/10] It was soooo boring. There was just no chemistry and putting Esumi und Yamashita together felt more like parent-child than a romanticaly involved couple. The two of them are like from two totaly other worlds - maybe that was the intension, but the chemistry was pretty much needed to make it work. | 21. | Comments by Swedish_Japan_Lover [Rating: 5/10] brings the mark down because of the bad ending and unnatural relationships. I mean, why call your husband who you have been living with for 7 years for SAN? it just doesnt make sense, the environment was kinda boring as well, and the ending sucked...and the mainactress was pretty annoying as well | 22. | Comments by carina4 [Rating: 8/10] YAMAPI! kawaii. A very good love story. It's a little sad that she doesn't love her husband in that way, and I feel sorry for him, but the dancing and yamapi is so romantic <3 but what ticks me off is that they don't get together in the end and I understand why in a way, but still! | 23. | Comments by DragonSpirit164 [Rating: 7/10] Hmmm.. quite a slow drama but touching in places. Kozue's uncertainty about herself and her relationship with Takuma is portrayed really nicely. The theme song was quite soothing, anothing one of those easy listening type pieces which I like. Overall, an average drama. | 24. | Comments by Eyeyore [Rating: 3/10] No grounds for the main character to find a new romance especially if there is a caring and sensitive husband. Yamapi pales in comparison with Yanagiba. I guessed i wouldn't have hated the ending as much if the hubby was a balding, big tummy, bespectacled ojisan..... | 25. | Comments by natni [Rating: 6/10] the story was ok...but the ending was a disaster...i think if Takuma won't be together with Kozue...then just stop when she happily doing her job...why it should end like that....totally a disaster...give 6 over 10 because i love yamapi and makiko... | 26. | Comments by delaciel [Rating: 7/10] Well, I like this drama until episode 7 or 8 (I forget). because I just didn't like the ending. It has an interesting storyline (there's some scene that really touch my heart). It cold've been a better drama if they explore some minor character. | 27. | Comments by jica [Rating: 6/10] I watched it because of Yamapi, didn't really like the drama, don't like how the female lead treated the young boy. Anyway, for me, this wasn't so much of a love story, because he seemed to be such a boy, more like mother and son relationship. | 28. | Comments by Shachihoko [Rating: 1/10] Unlike all of you Yampai fangirls rating this series just because of him!
I can't seem to get into this series at all, somehow I find it pretty boring and putting me to sleep for good after the first 2 episode. Not a great drama at all.. | 29. | Comments by Tiffany [Rating: 4/10] This series started out really promising. It seemed like a non-traditional love story that could have been well done. Yet, the storyline fell completely flat. To make matters worse, the acting was only mediocre and the ending terrible. | 30. | Comments by xhidex33 [Rating: 9/10] Like most others, I watched it because Yama was in it. But then I got to like Esumi a lot (real pretty... and young-looking). The story is a bit draggy, but the casting and idea is nice. Very cute (doki doki...suru) |

1. | inessalenin As a woman, when you over 30s, daily life and job just a routine then you would consider Kozue's feelings! The idea wanted to change. It's a pity that the real loving feeling she got is not right time, as she met Takuma who's younger than she 14 years.
