1. | Comments by Jeanxi [Rating: 8/10] Intriguing at first, it's definitely a different kind of detective drama. After reading that the writer for the novel on which this drama is based also wrote the original novels for Ryuusei No Kizuna and Tantei Gailileo, I can see the similarity between this drama and Ryuusei No Kizuna. I wouldn't have expected that same author also wrote Tantei Gailileo, though, since Gailileo seems like a more usual suspense drama. I think the novelty of the premise wears off after 4-5 episodes and starts to get a little draggy. Still, Abe Hiroshi carried his part extremely well (as usual) and I would say the drama is definitely still worth checking out. |
2. | Comments by Susan [Rating: 9/10] Shinzanmono was one of the rare dramas that turned me off at the very start but managed to pull me in completely not long after. Though it was frustrating at times to follow the seemingly disconnected mysteries of the townsfolk and the repetitiously heartwarming conclusions, in the end I appreciated the detailed tapestry that was woven about the victim's life and the character of the town itself. Abe Hiroshi's performance was nothing to write home about, but his subdued, comical air suited the role. In the end this is not the suspenseful mystery drama I expected, but spoke to the slice-of-life fan in me and was satisfying. |
3. | Comments by Sleepingstar [Rating: 8/10] As mentioned it's a bit stupid how Main character solves peoples personal problems, but I can live with that and it works OK for me. It's also more human drama than some detective story, though main story obviously is there all the time. Overall this dorama was interesting, well done and definitely worth a watch.
NOTE: There is not that well known actor/singer Matsumoto Jun in this dorama (though he is listed above), its just some old lady who happens to share same name with him. |
4. | Comments by outlaws0025 [Rating: 8/10] Very nice dorama. Exciting, but I have seen better, so that's why I only give it 8. I would anytime prefer TRICK over this. Abe is perfect for the role, and does a great job as always, and I like how they focus on a new suspect every episode until the 6th or 7th episode where they begin to focus on 2-3 persons only. |
5. | Comments by donna8157 [Rating: 6/10] The story isn't very outstanding nor are the episode by episode mysteries, but Abe Hiroshi's acting and character makes up for it. His acting alone carries the whole show and the eccentricities of his character make it enjoyable. It's a good choice for fans of Abe Hiroshi. |
6. | Comments by Tachii [Rating: 7/10] At first impression, a criminal investigation drama? After a few episodes, it was more about Koichirou's job to assist everyone was who involved in the murder. It was pretty emotional stuff, but I'm more of a comedic type of guy so I wasn't too into it. |
7. | Comments by Omren [Rating: 4/10] Very formulaic series with pretty boring characters. Very unimaginative complications and cheap twists that made it a slog to watch at times. Abe Hiroshi is the only reason I stuck with it. It could have been great but lazy writing made it boring. |
8. | Comments by strawberryfzz [Rating: 7/10] Too slow-paced for a cop drama, but watchable as a human drama. The actual murder/mystery isn't the focus as the search for the murderer only pops up at the very end. Abe Hiroshi is still as fun as ever to watch, though. |
9. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 8/10] Really not much of a mystery, it doesn't get suspenseful until the final episode (which runs a little bit too long). Might have been better if Abe hadn't been Dr.Phil trying to solve everybody's personal problems. |
10. | Comments by gaston [Rating: 9/10] Definitely super interesting and enjoyable. Tear jerker at the end of nearly every episode -- very heart felt. Plus, one of the few mystery doramas where I couldn't predict the ending. |
11. | Comments by Lucian Dureau [Rating: 8/10] Great performance of Abe Hiroshi as detective Kaga Kyoichiro. Although at the beginning the dorama is entertaining, since the episodes 5~6 the drama become more interesting. |
12. | Comments by mmyy [Rating: 7/10] Seen one too many mysteries written by the same man and you know what to expect. Abe was great as usual, not much suspense in this but entertaining enough. |
13. | Comments by WhiteHawk [Rating: 9/10] A great break from the different-murder-every-week-solved-in-an-hour format. Plenty of twists in each episode. Perhaps Abe Hiroshi's finest role yet. |
14. | Comments by lawsco [Rating: 8/10] This is interesting. a series of individual stories that combine to tell one overall story. I liked this a lot more than I expected. |
15. | Comments by bobspelledbqwrds [Rating: 10/10] Calling all mystery lovers!!

16. | Comments by junny [Rating: 9/10] Abe Hiroshi was wonderful, and I love the glimpses into Ningyocho and its residents. |
17. | Comments by nickylynn [Rating: 7/10] Although Abe's character lacked substance, I found it interesting and entertaining. |
18. | Comments by EstherM [Rating: 4/10] I dropped this after episode 1. Oddly the second Abe drama in a row I dropped. |
19. | Comments by Spider [Rating: 7/10] Not Hiroshi Abe's best but still worth a watch if you're an Abe fan. |
20. | Comments by irwinner [Rating: 8/10] Pretty good story, with each episode being a sub-story in itself. |
