| Niidekyo Joe (Funakoshi Eiichiro), nicknamed Akahige (Red Beard), is in charge of a medical facility in Koishikawa. He devotedly takes care of the patients and also addresses their personal problems. Yasumoto Noboru (Nakamura Aoi) rebels against him but begins to discover the approach to being a doctor through his interactions with all sorts of patients. He matures as a person as he experiences cases of life and death at the medical facility, which is always cash-strapped, and the tenement houses. |
